Hey guys, im new to the site. Just looking for my first car, n just want people honest opinions. want something reliable and with as little mechanical work to be done to it as possible. Will be using the car daily for work and what not, but thing is I only want a VL or an R31. I know both require the work to be put into em and i could be asking a really stupid question but i mean which one is better than the other so to speak. Is there either that has more problems than the other? rust more than the other? or are they both exactly the same. ect. u catch what im on about. And i hope i dont get thrashed or anything for asking. I like em both and i dont want some deliberate landslide to a VL simply because of the site and majority of people but just an honest opinion for a first car, as im learning more everyday. thanks

well straight up i got a vl obviously.. my mate has a r31. if you ask me i dont like the look of a stock r31 but once your inside its a diff story. there lots of gadgets to play with lol.. goes without sayin they have same motor and all that but the VL is like 40kg light or somthin lol.. if you into the gadgets can always go the VL calais so you get you power windows and fancy pop up eye lids lol.. rust is usually on the window sills and in boot in the vls tho it can be hard to find one that doesnt have any rust. rust on r31's i got no idea. both priced the same.. and yeh same motor so comes down to looks. check out a vl inside and out and then an r31. 1 things i will add tho. VL seats are more comfy i drove from vic to perth in mine doin more than 10 hours a day in the driver seat and didnt get a sore back. and as for reliability i cant imagen the'd be any different with the same soul and all. hope this helps. Daniel Oh and welcome.. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ah cheers. guess it does come down to looks. i think 31s had a rust protection applied to the steel when they wer made could be wrong.but doubt it would prevent rust 22 years on.lol. Anyone else have any experience in comparing this to two in terms of reliabilty, etc etc.? pretty much whats a better daily or are they exactly the same in terms of the headaches you will face lol.

i suggest either a r31 or a vlc vlc's are easier/cheaper to look a lot nicer where as r31's arent there basically the same you probably dont plan on going turbo so r31 is more reliable ive found plus less attention with the 5-0
