Hey all, (original car post: http://calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=144743) After a years worth of doing nothing, im starting to make some progress on the daily blue VL (god knows when im going to start the calais...). Old grandpa that owned the car before was using straight water for coolant >< so keeping things short, coils in pipes rusted and broke away, flowing through the car Staged a massive clean up of the engine and cooling system. End Result: Next on the agenda was getting some stopping power on the beast Picked up a set of VN V8 Calipers and Rotors on the cheap so proceeded to swap them over End Result: Now still looking to dump on a 1 inch master for that little extra... Also from my stupidity i forgot to get 15s for my car after converting the brakes . End Result: Car on stands for the night. Next morning got a set of 15' ceptors for it Got a crapload more to do on the daily: Those taillights and garnish will hopefully be on tomorrow in an update post if weather allows. Post soon Mark UPDATE: Weather this morning allowed me to fit the VK Berlina taillights and a gloss black sprayed VL garnish to the exec. The VK Berlina taillights are darker tinted than the VL version and are pinstriped black along the light ridges. They also fit straight into the VL which makes this a good visual mod on the cheap (except of course coating your lights in nightshades :P) Progress Pics: END PRODUCT: Next ill be debadging the Exec and holden ass badges, restoring the holden one, and replacing the holden one... Cheers Mark Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Car looks mint man, especially the engine bay, wish it was mine! Same problem with my VL, old man owner ran straight water in the radiator. I did heaps of radiator flushes etc, heaps of rusty water came out, but thats all. What else can I expect?? The engine does look clean under the rocker cover tho!

Check how bad the corrosion is on the pipe connectors on the block. One of mine was soo corroded that it broke apart when i pulled the hose off. Ended up having to weld a new piece of pipe onto the ass of the old one... Also take off all the hoses and get a bottle scrubber and scrub. You'll be suprised at all the crap thats caked up in there. One last thing, if the water had scaly rust in the reservoir, disconect the hoses that are for the overflow and the line to the radiator, wash them out with warm to hot water, then blow out all the built up scaley rust in there. thanks for the kind words, Mark

Also while at Repco, saw this LED conversion kit for the interior light by AutotechnicA. They come in 6, 12 or 16 LEDs and come with an adaptor to match the old yellow globe in the car, with sticky adhesive on the back of the LEDS. I got the small 6 LED for the car and its a vast improvement in lighting from the original globe, Though looking back i should have got the full 16 LEDs to make it daylight in the cabin at night Photo's were taken in daylight. I will post a picture tonight of the LEDs in action at night and how much only 6 LEDS light up the cabin. Superior interior lighting for $20? Yes please Cheers Mark UPDATE: Heres the photo i promised of the LEDS working at night. As you can see the 6 LEDs light up the plastic cover no problems. i couldnt get a cabin shot of the lighting cause of my camera, but if you can judge on the lighting of the globe housing with the cover... Rest my case Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
