Few weeks ago i drove to Phillip Island. i have a 4 speed jatco and it was just an easy cruise. overdrive was working fine up and back. then the next day overdrive wasen't working.
When I flick the switch for the over drive the light on dash goes off so I know it getting recognised somewhere along the lines. Wasen't sure if it was controlled by a solenoid on the trans itself to engage the overdrive or what. If so is it common for them to break? and if it's not that then what else could it be? planing to goto phillip island again this week and possibly SA in a couple weeks. would like to take the car but not really wanting it sitting on 3,000 rpm the whole trip.
Same thing happened to my auto before I swapped to manual. I believe it was the solenoid at fault, but I didn't bother fixing it.
theVLguy may have a better idea?
the Solenoid just unscrews, use a pair of multigrips.
The jatco OD is a Normally on solenoid, so to disengage OD u supply the solenoid 12v, so if the switch or ecu was faulty OD would stay on
If changing the solenoid doesnt fix it, id look at a OD problem internally, like a worn band
