For Sale Template StockyMcStock ------------------------------------------------------ OK some of you guys will probably remember this car, I built it a few years ago and learnt a lot from the exercise. The time has come to sell it, I'm now living in Melbourne and going overseas next year for a while, the car is in QLD and just not getting used. I'd rather see someone take the engine and put it into something that's worthy of it. Specs; 1988 VL - Originally an Executive n/a auto Maroon over silver Engine; RB25/30, fully rebuilt head and bottom end, everything has done about 5000km since rebuild with no issues. No blowby, no oil usage or leaks, a very tight engine. Parts list: 3ltr block ACL cast pistons, standard bore size, ACL race series rings. Rods - standard. Crack tested, cryo treated, beam polished then shot peened. Bearings: Nissan mains, clevite 77 rods. R32 GTR oil pump. R33 RB25DE head lightly ported exhaust side fully rebuilt, new valve guides, reseated valves etc stock cams RB25DET 380cc injectors (comes with a free set of 550cc injectors which i think are NISMO ones on an RB25 rail) Custom JD plenum XF throttle body (3 inch) Hot side: Stocky Racing Industries tubular, split pulse exhaust manifold 60mm HKS racegate with merge pipes from each collector. Full house GT40 turbo. 1.34 exhaust A/R, split pulse. 0.72 A/R compressor. 4 inch inlet. Stocky Racing Industries 3.5 inch dump pipe. Stocky Racing Industries 3 inch cat-back mandrel bent exhaust. Stocky Racing Industries 3 inch stainless cooler piping. Eaton M90 supercharger, custom shortened drive snout for clearance. 1.8x crank speed drive. Garrett 32mm wastegate setup as a bypass valve for the blower. Hybrid front mount. PowerFC. Q45 AFM in the piping. 044 pump under the car being gravity fed from a surge tank in the boot which is fed by the stock pump. Body: Stock 15 inch rims, hubcaps etc. Slight depression in drivers door, nothing major. There's a bit of a scrape with no paint off in the rear quarter panel too I think. Driveline; MF5 manual box Full face organic clutch with 2800lb pressure plate. Doesn't slip on 235rwkw but is probably getting close. Recommend upgrading clutch and gearbox before winding more juice into the engine. Rebuilt tailshaft (done 5000km, in great nick) Diff is a 28 spline LSD job, has also been rebuilt about 1000km ago with new bearings everywhere, the LSD is tight as hell, it's one of the best i've ever used, it chirps a little on tight cornering when it's cold - very good and strong diff. Suspension is Monroe shocks and low king springs i think. Shocks may be a bit rooted now but still doing okay. I bought them second hand. Brakes; 1 inch master cyl (virtually new) VLT front discs (virtually new) Series 5 RX7 brakes with adaptor kit from a bloke on these forums somewhere Interior is stock Exec interior, It has a tacho with shift light on the steering column and a boost guage. Video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzRpz9c-t_o Dyno sheet; Pics; (Note that the engine bay looks a bit different now - the turbo-blower connecting pipe is a newly fabricated piece and the bypass gate recycling pipe is not in use - it needs a new bit of pipe made up. Also there is some nice shiny ACL heat shielding over the exhaust manifold to stop the bonnet catching on fire) Bad things; The body is crap up close, has some small dings and many imperfections The paint on the bonnet is blistered above the turbo The cooler piping on the hot side is poor quality (i did it with a stick welder) it works but it's not particularly pretty Good things; It's loud as hell and sounds really weird This baby made 235rwkw on 9psi. yes just 9psi. the turbo hasn't even started winding up yet. This will make an easy 300rwkw on about 13-15psi I would think. Stick some cams on it and it will go nuts, the little RB25 sticks aren't helping at the moment. The Q45 AFM will apparently max out at around 400rwkw but don't quote me on that. Goes like stink, has a massive powerband Has heaps of good quality parts on it Is ready to wind some boost in and make serious numbers (up to the limit of the stock rods) with a better gearbox and clutch Is cheap Now this car is currently unregistered, and I don't like anyone's chances of getting it engineered for a safety certificate. What I would recommend is that somebody buys it, trailers it home, pulls all the awesome stuff off it that they want and sticks it in their car, then sells off the stuff they don't want. It's a pretty damn cheap way to make a very fast street car. This engine is crazy in it's power delivery and the car is much faster than most other cars with the same peak power. Have a look at the video above for an indication. It is also an extremely safe engine. Because of the thermodynamics behind the twincharge setup, the car runs a long way from the 'ping line' and is nowhere near detonating. It can run a heap of timing because the exhaust scavenging is so good, and because the rear of the turbo is absolutely massive. But there's no lag Knock never registers more than 20 on the PFC (normal safe tune). It does need a little bit of fab work done, it needs a bypass pipe made from the bypass gate to the piping between the turbo and blower. This will be pretty easy to do but i haven't gotten around to it. Also i think it will definately need a new battery by now, it's been sitting in a garage underground for the last 10 months. It will start and run, the cold start idle and tune are excellent. I think that's everything but i'm sure i've forgotten some stuff. I'm currently in VIC but if someone really super badly wants it i will take a deposit and fly up to meet the buyer there. I'm coming back up there for christmas and will be there for a week or two in jan as well if you can wait. If it doesn't sell i'll keep it and put the engine in something else. Location is the sunshine coast (Maroochydore) Cheers, Stocky ------------------------------------------------------ Also i hope nobody will be put off by the unusual nature of this engine setup - if you have a search around this site for posts by myself and Warpspeed there is a heap of information regarding the twincharge setup, it is extremely efficient and very safe, delivers huge power with maximum efficiency and this setup is absolutely nowhere near its peak efficiency. It was all built to run 300-320rwkw and it will do that very very easily if the dyno chart above is any indication. I will also be happy to talk to the new owner and provide advice and education regarding the twincharge setup, the bypass gate setup and the supercharger drive. It is remarkably simple in real-life so don't be daunted by the apparently very strange engine bay. I really really really wanted to see this engine make the numbers it was built for but life has a way of ruining the best laid plans. The big injectors come with it, an R33 box and clutch with a retune and it will be even more ridiculously fast than it already is. I am very much hoping that someone with some technical know-how will buy this thing and drop it into their car and show the true potential of it all. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Nothing wrong with the vid. Doesnt show that its on the street nor any car details. Seems to go pretty well!

The video was taken on a mate's super long driveway out in the middle of nowhere, it's nice flat concrete and is straight for about 400m or so. He sort of uses it as a "test track" for his various cars. So nothing illegal going on there. You'd have to be crazy to run it to 150 on a public road. now somebody buy my car

Would you consider a trade as im very interested in your VL

i'm keen on trades, but only if it's for an envelope with 8k in it yeah it's a bit of a shame hey..... to be honest half of me hopes it won't sell, then i'll have to keep it and maybe one day when i get some space to store it i'll finish it off or reshell the driveline. it's a sweet piece of gear but unfortunately VERY unusual. the thought is entering my mind to buy an R33 GTS-4, pull the engine and powerFC out, stick it in the boot and drive it all back down here to melbourne. but honestly i would prefer to sell it.

i'm up the sunny coast between 1st jan and 9th jan, if anyone wants this, 7.5k will take it away. if nobody buys it i'll just pull the driveline and stick it in something else.

Just trying to get my head around how this all works. You have the super charger supplying the engine at all times, and the turbo outlet feeding the super charger inlet, which compound compresses the air due to the inlet temp being higher than atmospheric pressure. If I am wrong, please explain how the twin charge system works as I am interested. The video looks like you have a very trackable setup for a potential 600HP motor with big block response and torque . I have seen setup where a supercharger or smaller turbo supplies the INLET of a larger turbo compressor (ie where the air filter would be) to spool it up quicker, and then use a throttle plate that opens up via a solenoid to an air filter pipe so it can suck in more air without the super/turbo charger being a restriction in the high RPM range (larger mass flow / sec requires free flow into the compressor).

it hasn't sold, no. i'm planning on driving it back down here to melbourne one weekend in the next 3-4 months using a permit and then will probably part it out. darkstar; you've got it right, but also wrong. turbo picks up air as normal. compresses air a bit, in my case at 9psi there's probably only 2-3psi in the turbo outlet/blower inlet, but it's still 400hp worth of air. this denser charge is then compressed again by the supercharger and fed via the intercooler to the engine. even though there are two stages of compression, the charge is not heated any more than the equivalent boost level in a conventional single stage compression. now the problem with roots blowers is that they tend to drop off boost at higher revs, as they become inefficient. so you have a great whack of low-end torque which then tapers off and feels quite crappy at higher RPM. they essentially struggle to fill with air at the inlet because the vanes in the blower are whipping around too fast and the intake cannot "fill" with atmospheric pressure air fast enough. however if you add a turbo in line with it that can feed massive amounts of airflow at whatever pressure you want, then the turbo just pressurises the blower inlet which makes it MUCH more efficient. so you get solid boost all the way to redline. now the awesome thing about all this is that you can use a gigantic rear housing on the turbo because it "sees" a much larger engine than 3L due to the supercharger. a 3L engine like this with 5-6psi of supercharger goodness "looks" like a 4L or more engine to the turbo due to all the extra exhaust flow at low RPM. so the turbo spools early, very early. so what you've got is a giant rear housing on the turbo which allows huge top-end power and efficiency without losing low-end tractability. exhaust manifold pressure is very low because the turbo is hardly working for its money, so you get excellent exhaust pulse scavenging from the cylinder as well - no more 1000deg exhaust gas residuals left in the chamber = more power again. another great thing is that your intake manifold pressure is HIGHER than your exhaust manifold pressure, which helps with valve overlap scavenging as well. anyway i could waffle on about this all day but the point is you get super awesome low-end, massive top end and the best bit is that the engine is very safe. it runs so far from detonation threshold that it can run heaps of timing. bad batch of fuel? doesn't matter, engine won't blow up. it's a brilliant thing. edit: i too have seen those setups with funny valves and stuff to turn the blower off at high RPM. way too complex for me. also you lose the effect of having inlet pressure > exhaust manifold pressure which is the best part of the whole deal, and responsible for so much of the extra "free" power. I would do it like this every time.

the cam belt on the balancer has been drilled with six holes to match up with the existing six holes in the balancer which usually mount the power steering 3pk drive pulley. so it just bolts straight onto the end of the balancer. the power steering pump is driven by the toothed belt, and also acts as an coupler for the blower drive, so the pump is still driven at 1:1 via the crank as per usual. it's extremely reliable once you have the blower drive sorted and aligned. there really are no problems at all once that is done.

thread from the dead bumping this because the car is now in melbourne, inner north west. it will be for sale as a whole for a week or two before i pull the whole thing apart and sell the parts individually. all still in good nick, running perfectly with a brand new battery. open to offers - awesome amount of gear there for the money!

So to finish it.. Gearbox Clutch Fuel System Possibly an ECU if you wanted to do away with the MAF etc

fuel system is all sorted, it runs an 044 from a surge tank in the boot which is fed by the stock pump. works very well. it really just needs a strong clutch and an R33 box and it's done. there are 6 x 550cc Nismo? injectors on a rail in the boot which could go in to provide the extra fuel needed to make 300rwkw. the rest of the engine will do it standing on its head. whack in a 264 exhaust cam and it will be awesome. just drove it back from the shipping company's yard and it was fine except i think the brake booster has died because the pedal was very hard.

Its bloody original I can give you that. It should have more than 300rwkw in it though? Whats the turbo without reading everything again?

the power output is only limited by the rods - at the moment it has standard rods in it which are safe up to 300rwkw or so. if you built the bottom end with some good rods, there is no reason it won't make upwards of 800hp, the turbo is more than capable of that sort of power and the supercharger won't hold it back at all.
