Hey guys i just noticed a new noise my vl turbo is making.. What happens is when the turbo spools up it also makes a really high pitch whistling sound while it is spooling up. if i drive at low revs it dosnt make it as loud. im thinking the turbo might be on its way but, it dosnt have a problem with boost? if anyone has any idea please pm.

I'd say you have a boost leak. Usually if your turbo on the way out you'll here a grinding noise like your turbo's bearings are full of sand and loss of boost speed & boost. Usually you can hear if your bearings are stuffed when you back of the accelerator. But I would get it check ASAP because you don't want your compressor or exhaust fan hitting the housing. That's when the dollars start rising.

Ive got this noise also, its annoying as hell. It only happens on boost though, like you floor it, then boost rises then the noise starts. I thought if it was an exhaust leak it would start as soon as the throttle was opened?

yeah well as that post is 2 years old i thought id ask to see if anyone has had the problem since, it seems weird to me that an exhaust leak would whistle and not sound like a tractor. ive replaced the fold to turbo gaskets before on cars at work and they didnt make a whistle sound on boost before thats for sure. I will check all the gaskets tomorrow but they arent that old and dont think it will be causing the problem

fixed the problem. was a small boost leak from one of my silicone joiners on the cooler piping.

Hey guys fixed the noise. It was the crossover silicone joiner not on properly, leaking boost.
