im thinking of getting some redline for my recently rebuilt and installed MX7 as im not real happy with the changes, especially when cold, can anyone recommend a certain type of redline ie heavyweight shockproof or lightweight shockproof? theres some info in this ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/REDLINE-SHOCK...8 6.m20.l1116 (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=3&campid=5335860158&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com.au%2FREDLINE-SHOCKPROOF-GEAR-OIL-1-US-GALLON-3785-ml_W0QQitemZ180285559792QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories%3Fhash%3Ditem29f9db53f0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m20.l1116) and here http://www.redlineoil.com.au/product-information.asp not sure which to use...any suggestions?

4 gearboxes down with redline in them, havent broken one, on more power with Syntrans. Bursons stock it, probably repco aswell, not sure what you have over there.

no bursons but we do have repco and supercheap. cheers ill check it out. are there various oils with differing viscosity etc or just manual trans oil, at oil, etc just so i know what to look for?

Just called Syntrans, there is Syntrax aswell, thats diff oil. So Sntrans is what I use.

Syntrans 75w85 is a castrol product you can also use castrol vmx80 I have always used vmx80 i have worked at and recommend castrol oils for the last 13yrs. what I really use is 1/2 castrol vmx80 and 1/2 TQ dextron auto trany fluid. gear box oil is only thick to help suppress the box noise if you really wanted you could use trany fluid by its self but the box would be noisy but it’s up to you what you use Regards Darren

I got pointed towards some Lukey's Heavy Duty Oil Stabiliser. Got myself a 1L bottle of the stuff to add some to the MX7. Turns out the harsh/sometimes crunching gear changes are due to a leaking master cyl rather than a problem with the box itself.... Havent put the stuff in yet - but will try it out and see how it goes. Also recommends to put some in the diff too.

88 chaser is on the money. I wouldnt use anything but syntrans my car makes 350rwkw and is driven hard everyday and have never had a problem. It might cost a few more $$$ but dont be a tight ass, http://www.castrol.com/liveassets/bp...ans_B13127.pdf (http://www.castrol.com/liveassets/bp_internet/castrol/castrol_australia/STAGING/local_assets/downloads/s/Syntrans_B13127.pdf)

yea i had a look at that pdf last night sounds pretty decent... its just that i was told from a few sources to run redline in a freshly rebuilt box... as far as price goes i think theyre pretty similar. and cheers boys for the input.

Redline and Syntrans are close enough in price really, but yeah stay away from the redline stuff mate, its way too thick, crunches gears till its hot and all.

cool man you sold me... ill pick some up tomoz...just one more thing: how do i drop the oil outta the box and refill? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

sump plug on the bottom to drop it, plug on the side to fill it, fill it till it comes out, make sure the car is level though, not on some pissed angle. Comes in squeez bottles, so it not too hard, 3/4 drive straight into the drain plug and fill plug

update: did this today with syntrans, seems a little better but not much, also adjusted the clutch pedal yesterday, clutch is definately disengaging fully, im fairly sure the master and slave cylinders are new as well, so im guessing the syncros are farked. spew. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
