Rattle gun mate. Make sure the spring is held by a spring compressor before you do it.

It will only cost you about $20 to get a pro to swap yoour springs and/or shocks now that you've removed them from the car. For your own safety, get them to do it.

Haha thanks guys. Um yeah I'm competent enough to know to use spring compressors. The main problem was just not having something to hold the shock whilst turning the top bolt. Not to worry im at an auto place now getting them to do it on the machine haha. I'm not used to changing springs like this! My car has coilovers haha Thanks heaps for the help though guys Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Pity you couldn't find one of the threads on here. Best tip I found was to loosen the nut with the car still on the ground, using it's weight to hold the shock, worked for me. Won't be doing front struts again though if i can avoid it, wasn't much fun doing them on my own. But a good experience in the end.

Yeah un-doing the nute first while the car is on the ground is the best thing to do. But you going to need a rattle gun, sprng compressors and maybe even vice grips to clamp the shock tube...
