Hey there CT Well ive been a member for quite a while now and i think its probably time to make a thread about my car so here goes I purchased the car off an old high school mate who i saw at a local repco, at this time i was in the market for a vl and was looking at buying a calais, After exchanging conversation he asked if i knew anyone that wanted to buy a vl, I still believe to this day that it was meant to be! , It was love at first sight really.. i wanted a calais but it was something about this sl that i loved so i bought it and 1k later it was sittin in my shed. The car started out as a factory butternutt yellow N/A, SL It rolled off the production with factory air-con and power steering I dont have many pics of it before paint and turbo was done but i did manage to find this one.. it was when i 1st got it reg'd at Vic Roads It came with 14 in Caps And steelies but the 1st thing i did was put ceptors on with acclaim caps As most n/a vl owners it was almost straight away i started putting away for a turbo conversion. Not listening to my older brother ( a former VLT owner) saying do it once and do it properly ie: full build, I didnt wait and before you knew it , The car was converted using a standard t3 , VLT Zorst Manifold , VLT Injectors And Computer, and the usual muztek truck core front mount was added Dosing away being excited and dumb i never got the car tuned... And This resulted in disaster a good 7 months later End Result A spun big end bearing and this......... It was crunch time.. rebuild or sell? Of course rebuild !! Im shatterd i dont have any pictures up to this point because the last thing on my mind was photos. But anyways heres what it consisted of Out came the motor She Was stripped to bare block and sent away to get cleaned , and honed to make way for the MAHLE pistons and chromolly rings The crank was also machined I got the block back As good as new Assembled the Mahle pistons and rings and assembled the short block. I also uprgaded the Lift pump to a Pierburg Item and external pump to a 984 Bosch A Pace maker 3in Front Pipe Was purchased off ebay and also fitted along with dummy cat The head was also sent away to J&R Cylinder Heads In Airport West but due to funds at the time no head work was done neither a cam which at the present stage im regretting badly. It was Cleaned and surfaced fitted with New valves and Springs The motor was then assembled by my brother and me and and dropped back into the car, The front mount was removed and airbox was fitted this pic was taken just under a month after the rebuild Now as the motor was out of the way it was time for paint and panel, to complete my chaser project its all that was needed, I left the car at my mates panel shop and the work began Color choice was Absynth Yellow over MX Grey Bars 3 Weeks later and the end result was this..... And This is Pretty much how it sits now i havent done much due to other committments But future plans are Gt35/82r Motech Injectors JPC Cam Still Gotta Add more to this thread so stay tuned Hus Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
