my VLT seems to be dropping petrol slowly (drops) when the car is on from somewhere under the tank (havent had a good look, its dark outside!) it only seems to be donig it when the car is on, so would this be something to do with the pump, or a leak in a tank? anyone got a spare tank in melb i can come pick up? its an 88 VLT BT1 if it makes a diff. thnx

Couple of things: 1). Your factory breather hoses might have perished (common problem); over time they just crack and obviously while you're driving the car petrol escapes via the holes. Just replace them - i think Holden might still have them for the VL. 2). You could have a small crack on your tank. They normally appear around where the filler neck meets the actual tank. I had the exact problem and what I did was I bought some quicksteel - it's like a clay bar - and applied it to the hole. Never had a problem after that but just track the smell and look for those common appearing spots. All the best.

we udn the problem (after being covered in petrol and having a burning arm pit as the petrol ran down my arm lol. as you said, the little plug on the tank where the hose connects has a crack in it, so i may try that steel trick that you did hope it works, otherwise im up for a new tank.. (anyone know where i can get one cheap?)

Try the quicksteel!! it's good schit. Make sure the area is completely dry & clean first. If that doesn't fix the problem drop the tank and have it welded(cheaper option) or buy a 2nd hand tank(expensive option). But be were of buying a 2nd hand tank because it might have leaks you might have to get it pressure checked first.(even more expensive)

Can they do the job while the tank is still connected to the car?

Yer just a quick but in my first vl tank started to leak used that sement stuff but took a while also you could drop the tank and put in a drop tank for a tough look and replace all the lines on the filler neck witch will help maybe with fuel Eco cause it's got no vapors seeping lol :{

I'm pretty sure any automotive repair places in NSW can pressure test a tank but it's just finding one. I'm not located in NSW so I don't know any places that do pressure testing. I'd ask your local mechanic and he should steer you in the right direction.

Farout Ima have to take out the tank to get it pressure tested....I would have thought it was similar to how they pressure test radiators-while still sitting in the car.
