There is no other alternitive fuel section so i'm posting here
some of you have heard about E85 but most may not have
E = ethanol, 85 = % so E85 is petrol with 85% ethanol added
currently the government have E10 aproved but are in the midst of aproving E85
BENEFITS:
its a renewable resource (made from sugar, corn, or grains mainly)
cheaper than petrol
less polutant than petrol
higher octane than petrol
government grants coming for conversions soon? too. (ozone credits)
cooler combution charge temps
DISADVATAGES:
thermal output (btu's)
stoich. ratio (9.7:1)
corrosiveness (inhibitors have been added for auto use)
we have been doing r&d on this for years for both aust. and us markets
the results have been extreamly good with power figures improving dramatically
you questions are welcome!

Ever been tested with high performance applications?

yes yes f**king yes, f**k every fuel that there is, this fuel is the one we have been waiting for, there some turbo cars in the US of f**king A pumpimg out over 1000 rwhp
E85 has 108 ron rating ( best e85 is made from hemp) Yes hemp 115 ron
there are also afew 700 hp +na cars (one car on America hot-rod, discovery channel built by Bold made 760hp on e85
e85 needs to run 30% more
na cars will need carby mods,
efi will need bigger injection, had we are a few years off getting e85 in aust
also pollution free non corrosive
also do a google search "E85"

Has anyone back to back tested it for power against normal premium? What were the results?

I can get hold of E85 and it is cheap. only thing is it burns approc 30% more fuel due to high oxygen content within the fuel. I have been thinking of experimenting for a while now as i suspect it should run well on a turbo applocation as it runs cooler than unleaded and has a much higher RON(approx 105RON) means more boost less detonation. would be great to here what experience people have running it in there VLT as it has some great positives going for it.

yeh like he said, it burns quicker than normal fuel..
and what ever happened to thoes ethanol blends used in the v8 supercars? chewed up their fuel systems didnt they?
if, when they start doing conversion and they properly set up the fuel systems in older cars, then it might be worth doing, dependant on the cost.

I dont know mch about conversion kits. I wouldnt imagine there would be anything changed except tune to allow the higher fuel to air required to run E85. I am not 100% sure but I dont think that E85 is corosive but can gel up in your lines if it sits for long periods of time blocking your fuel system this is much like running methonol but not as bad.
another thing i would like to find out is. running E85 does not put out the high Co2 emmisions as running uneaded which could meen highy modified cars running E85 could possible pass an emissions test.

chalk and cheese, even E10 is a lot better.
Can't wait for E95 which they just got in the states ,better again than E85 has same octane as C16, testing on supras in the states they have run 35psi+ boost ontop of 100hp nitrous jets. 1000rwhp pump fuel cars will be commonplace in the u.s in the next 12months. But you need BIG injectors and LOTS of pumps
cheers

DW....NO REASON YOU CANT GET 2000+HP
E85 has 108 ron rating ( best e85 is made from hemp) Yes hemp 115 ron
DW....THIS IS CORN BASED @108RON OUR GRAIN/SUGAR BASED WILL BE 110-112RON
there are also afew 700 hp +na cars (one car on America hot-rod, discovery channel built by Bold made 760hp on e85
e85 needs to run 30% more
DW...30-40% FROM MY TESTING
na cars will need carby mods,
efi will need bigger injection, had we are a few years off getting e85 in aust
also pollution free non corrosive
DW....IN ITS NATURAL FORM IT IS CORROSIVE BUT THE INHIBITORS STABILISE IT WELL
also do a google search "E85"

yes we have been working on euro 4 for some time now!

26-05-08, 09:40 GMT+10#12 theres guys in the states and also in swedan that are running turbo systems through LS engines and have had some great results.
there has been a few one of cases of corrosion but the biggest problem people living in colder climats have found is water saturation.
but good to hear its becoming more widely used!

26-05-08, 14:19 GMT+10#13 I emailed United to asking for a timeline (or if they have one)when E85 will be introduced
in all states. I have been using there boost 98 E10 for a while. A 9 sec 150mph+ street car
on drag radials/pump fuel would be good fun. E85+ water injection would take "street style" performance to the next level.
cheers

Is the fuel consistant? I wouldnt want to be using it if there is too much difference between tanks. Whats needed to be done to run this stuff? Is it just bigger fuel system or something more? Cheers Nick

AHH BUT COMPARE IT TO 109-110 RACE FUEL @ $9-10 PER LITRE?
= GOOD FOR TURBO CARS

DW....YES IN THE US WITH 98% CORN BASED BUT WE WILL HAVE 80% GRAIN AND 20% SUGAR BASED
I wouldnt want to be using it if there is too much difference between tanks.
DW....JUST TUNE TO THE GRAIN BASED E85 AND ITS SAFE ON BOTH

PREDOMINATELY TUNE BUT FUEL SYSTEMS AND RUBBER COMPONENTS MAY NEED DOING TOO!
