I did it on my SL when I was about 20. Good job to learn on. I bought a roller for $400; Executive, so had power steering. Just bolted it on piece by piece. You need the rack, lines, pump, pump bracket, reservoir, fluid and a belt. It's an analogue system, so no wiring. All the VL RB30 crank pulleys are the same. Just swap the racks, install the pump and bracket, put the belt on and adjust, install the reservoir, connect all the lines, fill with fluid, bleed and test. Then go get a proper inspection and wheel alignment.

It's great if you have a roller, because you can see how it's set up, and go piece by piece. Maybe get yourself a Gregorys manual too, just in case.

I ended up buying a secondhand power steering rack off ebay with a recent rebuild for $50, great steal. Anybody know who can install it for me (profesionally) around Melbourne? My mechanic wants $400!

Got a picture? I've never seen a crank pulley without the power steering rib.

You'll save all that cash on labour, and you'll feel good about doing it yourself. Maybe someone local can help you, but it will be worth the time and effort to have a crack at it yourself.
