guys i have just bought a autometer boost gauge $185 it cost me.
i have hooked it up and it seems to be working fine.
vac is reading 20 on idle.
the problem is on standed boost it reads 3-4 psi.
i have a boost controller and if i boost it the boost gauge doesnt change much at all.
its reading 5psi when i put my foot down. there is no way its on 5psi. more like 12-13 by the sound of it and performance. it lights the back wheels up when i put my foot down. the gauge is hooked up the the plenum vac line, and is cable ties so it doesnt leak!
its a high comp enginge (converted)
t3/t4
standed turbo injectors
standed jecc vlt autp ecu with chip
3' dump pipe
bosch 910
vlt spark plugs
15/40 syn oil
100 octane fuel
timing is set to around 14-15deg of timing and this engine just keeps taking more boost. IT IS NOT PINGING AT ALL! NO DETONATION. i dont know what boost its running now as i cant tell, and i dont want to put it higher as im not sure, even though its not pinging.
any idea y the gauge isnt reading prop??

For a start its the pinging/detonation you dont hear that does the damage. (Very easy when at full noise) so I wouldnt be putting more then 10psi (with a decent kooler) unless you have it on a dyno while uping the boost.
It must have a leak somewhere along the line or the gauge is damaged.
What type of boost gauge is it for $185??

there are no leaks! i dont understand it.
i have put the gauge on the bonnet now to make the line shorter and it still wont read higher that 4-5psi????
i have heard pinging b4 in all my other vlz i have had and my r33, so y wouldnt i hear this pingning?? i use a backstreet at night with all the windows up so i can hear properly. its sounds fine!!
i have been told to listen to audible detonation and i have none!

90% of pinging, you can't hear, and causes the most damage.
It's possible your boost gauge is fine and detonation does exist.
Get it checked out mate, and you'll be fine

yeh its booked in to rank rotary(sabbadin automotive) next week..
if 90% of pinging u cant hear is true, then its def pinging.. cuz it must be running higher than 11psi as it goes to hard, it holds power throughout all gears aswell.. if it was detonating, wouldnt it be droping power through high gears??

whats correct?? that it would drop power through high gears if its pinging?

its gonna cost me $150 for a dyno tune. but if u think about it, i can buy another n/a for $150 and just put that in so is it really worth it lol

22-07-09, 16:50 GMT+10#12 dude, why would you have a engine running that amount of boost without getting it tuned. Your just going to be blowing engines if you dont get it tuned properly, do it once do it right $150 dollors is fucking cheap for a dyno go get your air fuel ratio fixed and then see how it goes.

22-07-09, 19:57 GMT+10#14 its only running 8psi, i hooked the controller on my mates vlt. this engine is a freak with the power it making on 8psi!!!
also dude its a $100 n/a engine who give a fk it it blows up. once i have another engine sittn here ill c how much boost this engines can handle.

22-07-09, 20:19 GMT+10#15 Remember your going to blow your turbo aswell and then your n/a trans will go and your open diff will go if you run insaine amounts of boost.
Why dont you tune this engine, get everything going good and start putting some money into it instead of wasting $100 bucks every time blowing them up

22-07-09, 20:26 GMT+10#16 yeh i know what ya mean but i would like to try it once, then when goes ill do it all prop with the new engine.. decom plate ect ect
ah n/a engine and tranny $150 no big deal.. rather that than a $1000 standed a8 engine.
blow the turbo?? a t3/t4 can handle 11-13 psi no problems dude

22-07-09, 22:51 GMT+10#17 Why dont you just buy another n/a for $150 and put forgies, better than $1000 for a standard a8, even if you slap a decomp it will be same thing?
Im saying you will blow your turbo from running to much boost not saying 11psi

move the position of where the boost gauge gets its reading from, hook it straight up to the back of the plenum and not the Tbody

its running off the back of the plenum and the gauge is on the bonnet now. bout 10cm vacc line thats all, and it still wont read???
