Prob not worth it, you need to buy an 12volt converter. Or as ank said a battery charger You can pick up a home surround sound system for bugger all now.

ive done it heaps of times, buy a cheap DC power supply that can handle 40ish amps and run everything off that. used a car battery once, but u dont want that shit in your room!

dc converters are not the cheapest, super cheap ones are $120 bucks plus for just a super works one, otherwise do what i did, just ran a el'cheapo sub off your stez, mum hated me ...and if you end up gettin car audio gear... go buy a racing car bed and install it all into that bad boy

spend $700 on a really nice new source unit / amp and a few speakers. alternately get on ebay and get yourself a vintage rotel / technics / marantz etc hifi system. it will be a hundred times better than a car cd player and it doesn't sound like you have the experience to make car audio into a high quality home hifi setup.
