heya guys, just wanted some opinions on what u would buy out of the options of set of Alpine Type R's or some MB Quartz 6.5 splits for the front of a car. looking for good quality sound, middle to high. Or if you've got any other suggestions, the budgets about $300 for the front speakers.
oh and i added a poll just for spank factor.
My VZ has nothing but Alpine type R speakers, sound is clear and awesome. I own a pair of 6" splits in the front, pair of 6x9" in the rear and 2 12" subs in the rear. They are all type R speakers and I'm very happy with them. If you want clarity go type R, if you want performance/competition go type x.
I have competition 3 way MB Quart components. They are old school but brand new and all I can say is the most unbeleivable sound from front stage that I have heard from a set of speakers. I have a pdx 4.150 to run these and the more power you feed them the better it gets. I am actually considering bridging the pdx to run 300rms per channel to these.
Type R would be a good performing speaker also for the price. Really you should take a listen to both and make up your own mind on what you hear. Let us know on your decision either way.
i agree with squiggle...... i have installed both of these for years and are both great... but my opinions are
- type x are power hungry and are overhyped typr r perform just aswell
-type r sound great but the mid range woofer is quite deep and large depending on door depth etc... they have great mid bass though
-mb quart have amazing highs and mid range but lack mid bass... if u have a desent woofer system though this is irrelevent
just to stir things up a little i am installing a set of mb quart Q lines and a set of type r splits in my front doors so i have the best of both worlds
edit.. can i vote for both?

hey adictive just wondering on how youll be mounting the splits... im assuming its in a vl? tweeters in the front 4 inch factory spots? pods at the front of the doors?
i had mb quart discus and expert splits and have found both amazing.
as for type r i listened to them when choosing my splits and didn't rate them compared to what i had been looking at at the time. (polk momo / hertz / boston / focal)
mb uart are definately a much better sq speaker for the highs but over the last few months (after more than 2 years of use) i have begun to find them lacking in midbass.
midbass or no midbass i say type r are put to shame by the MB quarts. if you want quality sound and not just doof doof you will go the mb.
87 hevn-
both mids in doors.... type r tweeter in custom kick panel and quart tweeter in dash (close to factory 4 inch)
sorry to hijack thread

two alpine v12 mrv-540's
one for the quart and type r fronts and the other for the quart splits in back doors and boot lid
two alpine mrv-1001 monos each running a pair of alpine typre r 10" subs
once again sorry to hijack this thread

lol, hijacked it hard! Ah well, theres some good advice in here anyways. pretty sure the setups gonna be running a decent sub so rkn the quartz will be best choice for the job.
listen to both on a sound board and choose yourself. take a nice cd thats a little more sq oriented and go from there.
i would think with a decent cd you will choose the mb over type r but choose for yourself at the end of the day.
i ran my mb's crossed over at 80-75hz and there was a small overlap with the sub playing everything below that. in the end i just want louder. and the mb's carked it which gives me an excuse to splurge on a new front stage
