Hey all,
I mentioned in a previous thread that i would throw some photos up of my trip to the South Island. I didn't want to clog up another thread with them so i figured i would just make a thread!
We flew into Christchurch, picked up our rental car and then over the next week or so visited the following places; Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, Alexandra, Wanaka, Arrowtown and Queenstown. Anyways - enough rambling, here are some photos for you all to enjoy!!
Firstly - (For those that didn't see it in the other thread) I stopped in at this guys work!
The Cathedral (in Cathedral square... funnily enough)
Me and a very realistic penguin at the Antarctic Centre (http://www.iceberg.co.nz/) in Christchurch (...probably best you don't ask)
Leaving Christchurch we bumped into this nice man /sarcasm - Maybe put up a speed sign so we know it's 70kph!!
The view out across Dunedin peninsula from Larnach Castle (http://www.larnachcastle.co.nz/index.pasp)
... As above
Dunedin's Chinese Garden (http://www.dunedin.govt.nz/facilities/dunedin_chinese_garden/chinese1)
Looking out over Alexandra from 'The Lookout' (a road that winds up the hills - quite aptly named really!)
As above... I like these two photos as you can see the mountains in the distance above the fog that has settled over the town!
Me & my fiancee get snowed on in Alexandra. The first time i have been snowed on for as long as i can remember!
Picturesque Lake Wanaka
The view from the deck of our Room at the Grand Mercure Oakridge Resort (http://www.oakridge.co.nz/) In Wanaka
Puzzeling World (http://www.puzzlingworld.co.nz/) in Wanaka - "Bow before me, or i will crush you!"
A photo i snapped before we descended the Crown Ranges
Partway down the Crown Ranges - A glimpse into the future... some tight corners ahead then?!
Here is our luxury accommodation in Queenstown at the Marina Apartments (http://www.queenstownmarinaapartments.co.nz/)
The view of Lake Wakitipu from our apartment
Looking out over Queenstown viewing deck at the top of the Skyline Gondola (http://www.skyline.co.nz/queenstown/gondola/) complex
... As above
Overlooking the Skyline Luge Tracks (http://www.skyline.co.nz/queenstown/luge/) behind the gondola complex
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
** Save money & try Queenstown Adventure Combos (http://www.combos.co.nz/shotover.asp), We did the 'Shotover Heli Scenic' & thoroughly enjoyed it! **
The Shotover Jet (http://www.shotoverjet.com/) doing its thing
The amazing Shotover Canyons (http://www.shotover.co.nz/queenstown/the-canyons/)... go ahead - take it all in!
Birds eye view - Stunning snap from the helicopter!
Another snap from the helicopter... Some roading with outstanding hillclimb potential!
A shot over the pilot's shoulder of 'The Remarkables' closing in quickly!
Breathtaking view from atop 'The Remarkables' -> insert cliche about them living up to there name here
... As above
... And lastly... How the last 5 pics were made possible! Thanks to The Helicopter Line (http://www.helicopter.co.nz/queenstown.asp) for providing the chopper!
Hmmm... I'm sure that's enough photos - most of you probably bailed out halfway through!
... Oh well, it was my first trip to the South Island and on the whole i thought it was awesome!
Hopefully someone appreciates the effort i went through to post all this - i even included links for people that want more info or may be interested in taking a trip themselves! You're welcome
Cheers,
Jason

Not so much - i don't really have the urge to jump off a perfectly sound bridge! ...And whilst we're on the subject, i don't have any desire to jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane either!!

Yeah i did have a good time... I have thought about taking a road trip in the future... but i will need to get my car back for that!! The panel beaters have had it for a few weeks now, i guess it's better they take a little longer and do the job properly though - i don't want to have to repeat the process again in a few years! I do miss driving it though!!

Haha... yeah it was good - although it seems like the type of thing that would get really annoying at times... I will just shoot over to my mates place - oh no i won't; the roads are closed!!

Nice pics. We spent 12 days over there at the end of May and had a brilliant time. For someone from Tassie to be freezing cold you guys have some very chilly weather over there. LOL
awesome pics Jase. its about time i had a trip around south island too, its embarrissing telling foreigners that you've never been there (apart from wen i drove to christchurch at new years last/this year to visit a friend), and yet they've seen it all i enjoyed the drive along the east coast though, but it seems as that is just the beginning of the amazing [so i've been told] sights there are in the south island.
