hey when i did mine in my old one, i used 12mm MDF, it was probs too thick but it did the job, however i had to angle the edge which backs onto the seat to make it sit right

i would assume something around that size should do the job i think there was a thread about this ages ago if u do a quick search saved u the effort http://calaisturbo.com.au/showthread...t=parcel+shelf (http://calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=5951&highlight=parcel+shelf) now i must abuse u that threads a bloody sticky in the car audio section.... where u made this thread it's the very first thing on the bloody page to make a new thread u would of had to bloody just miss this sticky aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i pulled my original one out, traced around it, cut it out with a jigsaw etc... i used 6mm MDF and coverd it up in grey vinal... fitted perfect, never rattles or anything and the whole thing cost me like $20... i also put like a thick installation type fabric underneath

i've used 18mm MDF, and i laser cut it, it came out awesome.

hmmm thanks for the help peoples, i did a search wasn't satisfied. lol dont know how i missed the sticky. is there in way i can get out of cutting the metal underneath the parcel shelf??

why would u have to cut the metal under the parcel shelf?

yeh no reason to cut the metal of the shelf at all and when u make a custom one, use spacers for your speakers too

i didnt have to use spacers or cut the metal in the shelf... what size speakers were you gonna use, 6" should fit in fine without anything being cut

use 18mm mdf no need to cut the shelf, my 6x9's fit with ease

My mates gear in his mirc, used fibre glass resin over tightly suspended sheets. Then covered it with foam, and then with a suede black material, looks pritty mint..

nah only 6's man's, but my metal shelf bit, already had holes in it, they looked factory but had small metal covers lightly welded, which i just had to knock out

you shouldn`t need to cut any metal with 6x9`s just take out your original parcel shelf turn it up side down trace around it on 12-18mm mdf and schamfer it where it go`s under the seat. i mark the holes on the original shelf from in the boot and cut them out so you can easily mark the body holes on the mdf, then you know where you need to centre the template so the magnet doesnt touch metal.

You have a calais right. It will have the factory speaker holes already there. I dont think you will need to worry about spacing them or putting in some oversized ugly thing in the back that obsucres the rear window . 10mm of mdf or even chipboard will fit perfectly. Go out and get that automotive carpet from bunnings and look for the most depressed guy there and he will be sure to discount it for you. When you get home you can decide weather you will use some glue or just strech in over and nail or staple it in. I recomend just streching as I have noticed when your car is in the sun that it tends to wrinkle when you used the glue. Make sure you have a good friend willing to help and this will only take you 30min. Good Luck Man Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
