Hi guys, I have been absent from these forums for a good 6 days now, and subsquently not been able to help with any PM's and other such enquiries for which I apologise.
The reason I have been away is because I have spent the last 4 days in HB Hospitals Intensive care ward, which from what Ive experienced is where they send you when your really in deep ****. It was not a pleasant place and I have no plans to return.
I spent monday and tuesday at work as an ornament, not being of any use to anybody, and after being sick on tuesday night, took the wednesday and thursday off, due to return friday. Thursday night things all turned pear shaped for me, after being sick several times through the night I got my father to take me to see a doctor, who promptly called an ambulance. Initially I was displaying symptoms of a stomach ulcer, but this turned out to be damage to my stomach lining from the earlier night. After about an hour in ED they determined my blood sugar level was sky high. It took 2 1/2 days in ICU to get all of my vitals somewhere near normal, so they could begin treating me, and the diagnosis, which really came from left-field. I have type 1 diabetes, although no family member has ever had any history of any such illness, it appears to have struck me at random.
There are only 2 'stages' worse than how I was when I was hauled off to hospital, they are; Coma, and Death. I dont want to get all preachy but as males going to the doctor is something we tend to neglect, always thinking it will be right. Next time ill think twice about sticking it out a couple more days.

Good to hear your all right man.
How serious is type 1?
I thought those were all symptoms of owning a 2L VL!

Ive been given a big book to read so im not quite sure on all the in and outs of it, but sugar is definately a big no-no and I frequently have to monitor my own blood sugar levels and inject myself with insulin morning and night.

Once my insulin needs are figured out (its an ongoing process, trial and error), they will be relegated to occaisional treats, its the regular consumption of coke, fanta, milo, jellybeans etc that has to stop.

Good to hear you caught it in time - Some people would've just kept delaying visiting the doc until it was too late!

That was my first thought... I'm not the biggest fan of needles and i was just thinking i wouldn't like having to inject myself twice a day!
Anyways - glad to hear you're on the mend and i hope you get back to 100% soon!
Cheers,
Jason
