Radiator Hose Sealing?

I'm a bee's **** away from getting my VL back on the road and this is pissing me off. Just added a temp sensor for an extra thermo into the top hose of the radiator. The sensor wire goes between the radiator inlet and the hose itself. The kit came with a small rubber insert to help it still seal up ok. - I tried using this rubber insert and as soon as I topped the radiator up - it pissed out. - Tried resetting the rubber insert... same problem. - Removed the insert so its just the wire going inbetween the inlet and the hose. It still leaked, but only just (ie, a drop every few seconds) - Went and got some sealer (Permatex 1B (black stuff which is apparently flexable) and tried it again with the rubber insert. Leaked as soon as I started filling it up. - Tried with the Permatex 1B without the rubber insert - no leak at all. Until I ran the car and it got to operating temperature and was under a bit of pressure - then it started to come out slowly (and started hissing when the coolant level dropped enough) - Went and got some Permatex 2B (brown stuff which is apparently not flexable) and tried it. Same as above. All fine until the temp got to operating temp and then forced its way out. Can anyone suggest a better sealant? or a better way to get the sensor wire into the top radiator hose without the hose leaking all over the place??? Sick of topping up and bleeding the damn thing!!

I had exactly the same drama when i fitted up the thermo in my olf vc,just couldnt get the hose to seal with the sensor under it.I ended up using a sensor holder that goes inline with the radiator hose.got it from repco i believe, worked a charm.

Was gonna suggest the same thing, they also stock them at super cheap, near the wank factor gear knobs. like a joiner for your radiator pipe but with a threaded hole in it to screw your temp sensor into. Cut your top pipe insert joiner two hose clamps and screw your sensor in.

Its made by permatex.. its just a sensor safe silicon gasket goop, I just slapped it on and then cleaned it up and shes sealed. The stuff doesnt set really hard so might not even have to re-do if needing to pull hose off after its set. If your radiator hose is a little hard it might have trouble without a bit of silicone, thats my experience anyway.

i had the same problem when i put my sensor in for thermo aswell, i ended up getting a sensor with a thinner wire as my original one was about 3mm, new one is about 1mm, still havin problems with it sealing though, still weeps a bit, just learnt to live with it because sick of fixing it

had the same drama, i ended up wrapping some electrical tape around the outlet to build it up a bit then really tightened a new clamp on it with a bit of silastic and it sealed on the third go. hasn't leaked for the last 6 months.

Good idea to fix any leaks as they can suck air into the system, Dont want any air lock in there.
