Hi all,
Just a quick question, im looking at ordering pistons from either ACL or Wiseco. .
Just wondering if they do machining for you (valve notches)??
And also, talking to my engine builder. . He said to get the crank grub screwed. . What exactly does this mean>??
ive heard of similar crank talk, i think hes referring to oil restrictions that are common among rb engines and something to do with tapping them out
could be wrong
I had my crank grub screwed. basically they pop out the small origional welch plugs in the crank and replace them with grub screws which you loctite in place. cost me $50 and the machine shop / engine builder recommended. hope this helps
Hmm. .
I went to the machinist place yesterday and he said around $30 per screw!!!
Where did you get it done for $50, if you dont mind letting me know??

they replace them because the factory ones have a slim chance of falling out on a new $5000 engine its worth the extra $70 or so
pistons wise they are an exact replica of the cast piston in either turbo or N/A format of your choice
the grub screwed crank is a very simple modification you could do in your own garage with a tap and die set and suitable grub screws. not worth $30 each.
