why are you fitting it externally?

Probably cause it's an external pump mate. All I had to do was get new fittings so it could connect up to the standard fuel lines. Easy as to install.

No, you could fit it internally but why would you? Plus that would be heaps more work than just replacing the standard fuel pump with the 044

you should measure the voltage getting to your pump aswell to make sure its getting enough, and replace the 10amp fuse with a 15a

NEVER replace a stock fuse with a larger rated fuse unless you upgrade the wiring at the same time. Fuses are to protect wiring.....not the device hanging off the end of it. Sure, plenty of guys have put a 15A fuse and 044 in without a problem, but the insulation would be getting pretty warm i'd think. If you are going to measure voltage at the pump, the circuit needs to be under load to test voltage drop properly. That is, the 044 needs to be wired up and running. Best bet for an 044 is to run a larger gauge wire from the battery to the boot to a new relay and use the stock pump wiring to switch it.

From memory the only issues i had was sourcing a banjo fitting..and also heating a standard vl hose to stretch over the 044 fitting.
