running a holley fuel pump in a vl v8 and had to replace leaking fuel tank with a vl n/a 6 tank. at the moment im running the pump close to where the pick up is and just sucking the fuel out of the tank into the holley pump and to the engine with the internal pump not connected. im doing this because my old tank did not have a internal pump. my regulator does not have a return line. problem is i get good fuel pressure when cold but when i drive for about half hour the fuel pressure guage reads low sometimes even 0 but car still runs. i was thinking the pump is working to hard because its designed as a gravity feed via a fuel cell etc but at the moment its sucking and pushing and may be over working and heating up causeing the pressure to drop. now my questions are... 1.does any 1 use the internal lift pump to feed the holley blue pump??? 2.will the internal pump, pump to much without a return line regulator??? 3.what psi is the internal pump set at??? 4.has any1 had this problem and what was the cause??? 5.any1 installed as above and had problems??? any advice appreciated.

*BUMP* I am also interested in finding out. I'm just about to install a holley blue as my mechanical fuel pump doesn't cut it anymore. And need to know if i should still use the internal fuel pump. I will be getting a fuel cell but at this point in time i'll just use the original one

i had problems using factory relay so i wired a new realy and all new wires. i dont recomend using internal pump cause it will fight against the internal by pass in the holley pump. and when you disconect the internal pump it is making it hard to feed the holley by causing a restriction in tank. for now you can take the pump out of tank and use rubber hose in place of the internal pump. or use the return line on the bottom of the tank as a feed. both will work but because its not gravity fed will ware pump out quicker then usual but i have heard of people mounting pump not gravity fed with no probs but they are designed to push not suck. i recomend putting a fuel cell in and if its a dead head reg mount as close to carb as possible. any probs let me know goodluck.

internal fuel pump runs 7psi. mecanical at front runs 7-9psi. i have had alot of problems with mine surging but have that sorted now. just got a carter 14psi which has been brilliant which feeds a surge tank under the hood and mechanical takes it from there. no more surgies.... by the way haven't heard a good thing about holley pumps yet.
