Hey guys,
My VL is a tad to low on 15's so Im using my mum's 17'' vt ss wheels to hopefully pass road worthy check,
BUT the thing is, all 4 tyres have different trend pattern, like they are SIMILAR but not exact same brand etc.
Is this allowed?
Also, rust, how bad is to bad to be considered ''un-roadworthy''?
I have slight surface rust, like, about size of a 10c peice split in half.
Ohh, and can someone explain to me why exhaust leak is un-roadworthy.
Cheers,
tyres: aslong as the front two tyres have the same tread pattern its ok, back ones dont really matter, its the front two that have to be the same,
As for rust, if its split they'll pick it, your aloud some surface rust, but basically no splits, holes, big rust blisters ect... i had rust on a car and the jabbed it with a metal pole and it went straight through and he said "that will have to be fixed, i wanted to flog him, so just grind it back and slap some bog on it and that should be good enough.

if some **** poked a hole in ym vl id cave his ****ing head in, i thought u could sjt use a magnet to check for rust and if its doesnt stick its either rusted to the sheizen or bogged??

your saying the rear must have the same as well?
Only the front tyres must be the same tread pattern.
Exhaust gas cannot exit anywhere before the rear of the vehicle. And holes are usually noisy.
I poke holes in peoples rusty panels and exhausts all the time. Oh no i damaged your rust how could i do such a thing!!!
Just cover the rust up, wire brush it then rust kill it then slap a little bog and undercoat. No one ever gets out a magnet imagine you just finish re-spraying your car and bring it in and i start running a magnet over your panels then you really would have reason to be mad. Mechanics are not out to get you but we can't give you a roadworthy if you have structual rust holes. Light surface rust is a pass. Rust in non-structual panels is a pass unless it presents a hazard to pedestrians. (sharp edges)
in the vic roads roadworthy requirements and regulations book it states that both tyres on each axle of a vehicle must be of the same size/tread pattern.
Not a tester but i am an ex mechanic iv'e flicked through the book breifly when getting my car ready for a roadworthy inspection.
also i guess depending on where you take your car. they may or may not pick it.
I am a licensed tester and i have the latest books.
Then again i could be wrong but i let em go when they have different on the back. To be honest a lot of sections of the books are very vague ill go have a look if anyone really wants to know for sure.

BELIEVE me, it was hard to hold back, if it was any where beside the pitts, he woulda got dropped , the rust was blistered under the paint and you could sorta tell, but yeah he prodded it with a pole....they would bother with a magnet, bog is allowed so long as its done right, i've taken cars over the picks with bog on them (unpainted) if they ask it was rust repair..
As for the tyres, over here in WA all tyres are to be the same size, but tread pattern can be different on the back, so long as the front 2 are the same that was acceptable and the front is the drive wheel (steering)...Dont know about any other state.
Exhaust leak: if you have a leak they will make you fix it, Cos the car was not manufactured with "exhaust leaks" , this meaning your exhaust is a defect on the vehicle as its not suppose to be leaking..
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

well think about it
its a whole 2inch's extra+ (depending on the tyre size as well).
it will increase the radius (height from bottom of wheel to centre of rim).
it will slightly raise it off the ground.

is that what your talkin about?
edit: says nothing about tread being same? :S
Yeah not exactly its very vauge on details. the book i was reading was the regulations for the vehicle testers to make refrence to when checking over a car. how ever i may be wrong about the rear tyers as it was a while ago i was looking at it, it may have changed but i do remember it saying both tyres on an axle must be of the same tread pattern/ size ect.
hmm,
my final worry;

the manifold was drilled to fit a valve lub line, so it sucks from a can while driving. this was learnt in another thread, but my concern is, is it still ''road-worthy''?1
