Check at running temp, in PARK, at idle (engine running) You need to remove the dipstick, wipe, then dip/remove again to get the correct reading, make sure you push all the way back in to make sure of the level. Also dont use a real fluffy rag to wipe the dipstick (this may contaminate the fluid with bits of cr*p) I always like to wipe with a rag, then use my clean fingers to remove any fluff before inserting back into the box (dipstick may be hot tho) If you need to add fluid (id use Dextron 3 ATF) use a funnel and slow pour down the dipstick tube, you need to allow plenty of time for the fluid to get down the little dipstick tube, so go slow add no more than 1/2 litre at a time and recheck (don't over fill) drive the car around the block if you want and recheck again. AFAIK Jatcos were only four speed from factory. But for the rest, all good.

Who built your 3sp Jatco? Whoever did the build would be a wise person to ask. If you do not know, then Dexron 3 ATF will be fine. I used to use Dexron 3 ATF in my Full House Built KEAS 550+ kw 4sp Jatco Box. But now my transmission specialist has moved onto Ford 4sp Auto Trans Fluid. I can't feel any difference, but he said the Ford oil is designed to retain its lubricity and protection at much higher temps due to the Ford Auto Boxes running high temps from the factory.
