hey mate, my uncle was in the same position as you a couple of weeks ago. he was tossing up between a xr6t and a vz clubby. he ended up getting a clubby from my work and he hasnt looked back. xr6t's try to take him on all the time and he choppes em with out breaking a sweat. but the end of the day its your dosh, so go for a spin in all that your considering and make up YOUR own mind.
hope this helps mate
cheers

You're better off getting the Holden.
Cheap manual XR6 Turbo = T5 5 speed box made of glass and Chinese product's, meaning easily breakable under power.

Good honesty... 'INFLYT' how would you rate yours compared to a hsv (vx-vz)...

13-04-09, 09:30 GMT+10#13 I think alot of the HSV's are way over priced for what you get. In saying that though I would prefer one over an XR6 due to the XR being plain and the HSV being more up market.
You can get a VY-VZ SS for the price of a VT clubsport! You'd go the newer model any day.
The only reason I wouldnt go an XR is because my dad has a BF XR6 ute and it is the worst car to drive. The interior is plain grey and there is just nothing really nice about them.
Go to a car yard and take one of each for a spin and make up your own mind though... you're the one who has to live with it and enjoy it, not me!

13-04-09, 09:34 GMT+10#14 XR6 turbo's make about 180 to 190 stock (dyno tuned heaps of these things)
factory injectors run out about 230-240
factory valve springs are only good for 11 psi
factory intercooler is good for 220-230. any more and you are just cooking the air.
Factory engine good for 320 SAFE BF or Typhoon have stronger rods and good for 350 SAFE.
factory auto will support 280 then you loose gears, ( i know my R&D car just lost 2nd and 4th)
factory diffs and drive shafts are made of play dow (will live if driven with love)
cant run fuel tank under half if you intend on racing it or putting a fuel system on it. (fuel surge by 3rd gear if tank too low.
(I know idiots will say they run higher boost and make more power on stock injectors..... I am talking SAFE TUNE and boost that doesn't pump the lifters after 1 pull on the dyno.
VT I wouldnt get.
VX to VY
factory make about 180-195kws
tune 220 to 230
tune and exhaust 240-250
intake tune exhaust 260 ish
factory injectors and fuel system will support 300kw at wheels
heads and cam will see 300
PD blower will see about 320-350
single turbo on 8 psi will see 380 ish on an un opened engine
factory auto will support 300
I tune these cars all day, I like bang for buck. I recently purchased a WK Caprice. Each to their own.

13-04-09, 09:51 GMT+10#15 thanx guys it is interesting to see what peoples experiences are with both.
it would be between vx clubby vyss or xr6t
its interesting to see on carsales a few vz ss's have come down in the under $20,000 mark
from what i have seen on carsales and other sites i could getinto the following from $15,000 xr6t and also vx clubby from around $17,000 but not r8
found this vx clubby $13,900 auto 120ks

13-04-09, 10:00 GMT+10#16 Just remember though you're looking at breaking into the basement models for your money. You're going to be getting the dreggs (There are bargains to be had but just talking in general).
eg: You can get an XR6T for 17k, or you can get a high km thrashed one for 14k.

13-04-09, 10:13 GMT+10#17 Definitely get the XR6T!!! You won't look back!! Honestly.
Everyone knows the are they are the next cult car along with the VLT's.
If you want a XR6T definitely go the BF over BA and make sure its BF after 06/06 as it has the stronger internals and not to forget the 6 speed auto which can handle 400 rwkw factory..
btw bf valve springs dont have to be changed, another bonus...yes the ba v/springs are weak but cannot honestly go past a bf! Gl with your decision anyways...

i would be looking at spending $17,000 after paying out existing loan.i could sit back and wait for my ss to sell and spend $23,000 ish but in the end id rather spend 17k and sell my ss and put that $$$$ into my loan
you would be suprised what prices are like i was when i searched car sales.
i did notice lots and lots and lots of ba's for sale i went over 35 pages and there was still more to go lol
although when i was looking for some reason i started searching hdt cars and vc-vl's up around the $20,000 and one fat torie sitting on 19 inch fr's
in the end ill either get a vt vx vy or ba and have one car or ill get some old school muscle and keep my ss for a daily car who knows i still got alot of time to find something im sure when i see it it will jump out at me

13-04-09, 13:12 GMT+10#19 Get a BF XR6T..
I'm running 305rwkw in my BA with standard valve springs but thats just my car, dont think any other BA's have run the same power with standard valve springs.
And with the BF you'll be able to run 350rkw + without having to worry about your auto blowing.
If you want power at a cheaper price get the XR6T
