hey guys, i've been doing a bit of work on my VLT at the mo, just done the head with a tx2 cam, got z32 AFM, nistune, 044 pump and a ETM inlet manifold with XF tb 2nd hand and putting it on and sussing out the wiring. i made the orig throttle postion sensor fit the XF tb with a bracket ans grinding a flat in the shaft but do i need all the idle circuit, AAC, etc sensors that u find on the std inlet plenum? also with the fuel pressure solenoid, just want to run the press. reg straight off the plenum vaccuum bypass that solenoid/canister/4 vaccuum line setup, will that work? been told just disconnect them and it will be fine? theres 3 sensors that will be disconnected from what i can work out they're for mostly idle circuit. what will the ecu think? will it run or can i just log them off with nistune? if anyone thats smarter than me would like to help my VL out it would be appreciated cheers mick Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

apparently yeh idle circuit. one sensor for air in the plenum one for air going into motor. dont need them, makes sorting out the idle a bitch tho, gonna try hook one up. the fuel press reg solenoid one can be pissed off, controls diaphram flutters away helping with vaccuum..... anyone else done this also? had experience with these sensors?

For the engine to run you need....... Crank Sensor and AFM. For cold start correction you need Coolant Sensor For throttle pump and fuel over run you need TPS and have it set correctly. Thats about it to be honest. The rest is idle control, AAC valve etc.

yeh sweet to be honest i was waiting for you to reply lol. yeh thought so, all fast idle control, air flow adjusting control ****..... so should it be alright without them with nistune? if i cant get it running/tuned i'm gonna bring it to you. your EFI perf in burleigh hey? i work round the corner in hutchinson st. cheers

To get all technical, none of the devices on the inlet manifold are sensors (apart from the TPS). They are all control valves. What this means is that they are all outputs from the ECU therefore you can disconnect them without any probs. Yes, you can get rid of the fuel pressure reg solenoid. All it does is increase fuel pressure on hot starts to prevent vapour lock in the fuel rail. No big deal...it'll just take longer to start if this happens. I've only had it happen a couple of times. If you want drivability, i'd keep some form of idle valve to assist cold running. IMO, probably the most important one to keep is the Air Regulator (mounted under the inlet manifold) This will bypass enough air to keep the car running at cold start whereas the AAC valve will not....it can't flow enough air as it's only a fine tuning device. Set the warm idle using the screw on the butterfly. The Air Reg isn't controlled by the ECU.....it just needs 12v via the fuel pump relay. It's also dependant on heat, so ideally it needs to be mounted on the inlet manifold or somewhere where heat can be transfered from the block. Not sure how the throttle pump would work from the TPS though? TPS only has a switch for idle position, not WOT. I'd assume that the rapid change in airflow would be picked up by the AFM?

TPS only adds throttle pump when it comes off idle. Its not a potentiometer and does not have a percentage. Just on idle and off idle. It doesnt produce a bigger injection but rapidly pulses the injectors 3 times. You can hear it if you listen closley. For every other transient its the AFM Yeah used to be in burleigh, now in Yatala. hutchinson was just around the corner Let us know if yo need any help with the setup. Monster is right, The Wax pelet idle valve is a good idea, but we can make em idle under cold start conditions with the tune too, but its always good have a bit of extra air Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Wasn't aware of the rapid pulsing off idle though....handy to know. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

cheers doods, that one was the one i was thinking of putting back on but it will be a bit of an effort with the ETM inlet man and the ford tb, no real intake outlets for that vavle....got two pipes on the xf tb but doubt i can use them maybe one but need a inlet in the plenum....any ideas?
