Hey i recently just replaced my electrical loom on the inside of the car. Im just wiring up an N/A but the wiriing is from a turbo's is that a problem? Now i can hear the fuel pump working, where as i couldnt with the old one, etc. Basicly now the starter motor isnt firing? any suggestions? calling an auto elec out during the week just want some suggestions... hmm. Started motor did work, used to start the car untill it died afer a few seconds (reason for replacing wires) Everything is connected except for an extra transmission plug (something to do with turbo i think as i got wires from a turbo car). So headlights work, fuel pump works, ECU LED's ARE ON indicators etc etc just not firing. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Use a large flat blade screw driver and touch the -ve and +ve terminals on the starter. Should spark between terminal then the starter will kick. I have had starters that wouldnt do anything if i turn the key, but with the reds on and if i shorted it she would start? I also put a different starter in the same car, and worked at the turn of the key? These symptoms lead me to believe it was the ignition mod, when it was actually the starter Just a thought

So if i got everything connected, and i short the starter motor, theoretically it will fire and start? Also what do u mean by with the reds on!??! So basically get something thats going to touch both +ve and -ve and it will start? Does it need to be on accessories or something !??! confused =[

Yeah as long as the ignition is on... Turn the key till ur Ignition is on. All the dash lights (oil, brake, battery etc.) Will be on. (this is known as the 'reds' cause of the red lights) If you try it without the 'reds' on. the starter will still kick but the ecu, ignition etc wont have power to fire... With accessories on u'd also just get the starter kicking and no fire. Sorry if this doesnt make sense.....

Nah it does, so if its in the Red so the brake light is on and battery etc etc. Then once i short the starter, the car will fire up?!?! will it stay onn untill i turn it back off red?

are you sure that plug you left off isnt for the inhibitor switch? if it is for inhibitor then it will probly have 2 purple wires and a pink there too and another for reverse. Ther is no -ve terminal on the starter lol. it gets it earth through its body. there will be a plug with two wires one should be purple which is crank on holdens and the other is to send a crank signal to the ecu. there is also a big battery cable bolted to the solenoid. u have to bridge the purple wire to this to get it too crank, and with ignition on and that other wire in that plug still connected it should start. i reckon you will have a wiring problem not starter tho. get a test light and remember that crank is purple and it wont crank without inhibitor hooked up

Cheers for the clarification on the -ve terminal. I just assumed it was a -ve terminal i was bridging it with to get my starter kicking. Any yeah if all your wiring is good and legit, then the car will start and run till u turn the key off. U'll just have to do it everytime u want to start it. If it is similar to the problems to mine (starter screwed)

The swith that doesnt plug into anything is on the engine side, not sure on the colors but im sure it has something to do with transmission, but all the available plugs there (3) are connected. By bridge u mean conenct a wire joining this purple cable to the black cable conencted to the solanoid on the starter motor? ECU LED ARE ONE AND FUEL PUMP PRIMES JUST IGNITION DOESNT CRANK OR FIRE OR CLICK OR ANYTHING Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

so i just wasted 65 on an auto elec. Tried to short start it but the start motor only clicked, didnt crank. With the light gun we found that all the purple wires are getting power, even at the key ignition point. He wasnt sure what the two green wires on relay near the battery which also has 2 purple wires, crank and ignition. He recons if i charge the battery full and ground it properley (cause the motor ground bolt isnt big enough just holds it there instead of being steadyily ground). He just called back and told me that the green wires are conencted to the inhibitor switch and arent getting power. anyone have the same problem?
