hi guys ive recently bought a vlct. its factory turbo with 3inch exhaust fmic and ebay t04e turbo running 6psi. when u drive it and hit boost, it blows a cloud of blue smoke after u back off. also if it is idling for awhile and u give it a big rev it will also blow abit of blue smoke. i removed the pipe from turbo to fmic and it had engine oil on the inside. so my guess is that the turbo needs replacing and it is the turbo that is causing to car to burn oil, since it has a rubbish ebay turbo anyway. is that correct or could it be say the piston rings or valve stem seals?

yeah i did a comp test it was pretty even. spark plugs seemed to be fine when i replaced them, they had just fouled up because it was running rich for a while. also there is no oil in the catch can which ive heard is good

blue smoke is oil.. i would say vavle stem seals but i think it only blows smoke when the car it started.. could be wrong though.. no oil in the catchcan is good,, mean no blowby with means the rings are good

Could be your bearings and seals in the turbo. Does the turbo compressor fan have much play/movement ?

the reason i think its the turbo is that there is oil inside the intercooler pipe that comes off the turbo to the cooler. there is no oil in water or water in oil so i dont think its headgasket. the turbo is a garbage ebay one, i want to replace it but i just wanna be sure that its the turbo thats doing this and not a major engine problem. how do i check for movement in the compressor fan?

front turbo seal throws oil into the pipes then engine change the turbo before you glaze your bores up and need new rings Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Checking movement in bearings. Pull of the intake pipe to your turbo and hold the centre turbo fan shaft and move it from side to side. If there is more then 1-2mm play each side, she needs to be replaced or re-hauled. I had similar problems when my turbo had blown the centre shaft bearings, there was oil in the intercooler and piping. One day I could hearing a grinding noise from the engine bay, when under boost, and it was the fan scraping the side of the turbo housing damaging the blades. So I chucked in the TO3 and brought a T04E. Best thing I've done for a long time. Just be careful of E-Bay items.
