That's because your offset is wrong. That's why I want to know the sufferance is to get the offset right

Im in need of a diff.. and i just cant justify spending 600-800 bucks on a stock 20 year old VLT diff... the hub would get coverd by the center cap, that might not fit perfect but we will see..
Just looking at my options.. but need to act soon as my diff is getting louder and its my only car for work ATM.
matt.

11-03-09, 17:02 GMT+10#10 15mm, i can get that taken off the back of my rims easy, There 'was' a % limit you could take off but from what i was told now there is too many crappy rims out there that have no over engineering in them, so they dropped the rule and now cant do it..
But as my rims are not cheap copy crap and have heaps of meet there, i can find some one to do it for 'track only use'

215 should be fine. I had 235's on and they just hit on 17's.... 215 should clear pretty easy as long as your not sitting it flat on its ass no coils no shocks

your 17's are a different offset to calais rims or chasers. ive been through all this myself, i guarentee u wont fit larger than 205x65's on cepters with the vn diff.

11-03-09, 20:28 GMT+10#15 If you don't want to spend the coin, do what I did - get a cheap BW78 LSD off eBay ($50, VN SS, smashed crown wheel, perfect centre), bought a VL V8 Berlina roller for $250 (hello 28 spline axles), get some new bearings/seals fitted, fit your 3.45 crown wheel, and assemble. Wallah - VLT diff.

your diff would of been shortened, OR you ran some wagon heavy duty rear springs and your wheels stuck out 2" from the body

16-03-09, 15:41 GMT+10#20 Ok
I put a VR SS Ute LSD diff under my VL on Saturday
First noticeable things. It was far heaver then a VL Diff. The axles (being from a V8) are twice+ the size of the VL axles.
From the pics you can see the offset on a stock VL diff with stock Holden rims, I used stock Holden rims so you can tell the difference using the right offset.
I could get my fingers between the unrolled guard and the tyre with King spring superlows, 225/50R16
The diff bolted in 100% the same at a VL diff, no problems at all there even being from a ute.. Thought they were the same as a wagon and couldnt fit?
once i put the diff under and bolted up the rims, lowerd the car here is the pics, the car was undrivable, The car sat on the tyres as you can see in the pics.
Once i rolled the guards with superlow springs it was easy drivable, just like before but couldn't get my fingers up and wouldnt have been nice with a full car load. So i put in some monro low springs. now i can get near 3 fingers between the guard and tyre, with a full car load it lowers the car down to the super low king spring height and doesn't scrub
Before
After
when you stand behind the car you can tell the tyres are out abit more then they should be, makes the car look alot fatter and the 225s really fill the guards nicely.
I could fit 235s under, wouldnt really try 245s. But once i get my 18s back on and getting the offset changed as much as i could have under the old rules i will be able to fit 255s under i would think.
As i said, the axles are massive, the diffs are cheap ($150 for V8 diff, housing, rotors/calipers and LSD) and easy to come by. The only draw back i can see is the 3.08 gears might need changing and if i want to put burnout rims on the back they will stick out like it is now, But saying that, burnout tyres will be 225s or under most of the time. Im very happy with the convention and would do it again.
