hey fellas heres the deal - just ripped apart my rocker cover / crossover & gas mixer / exhaust manifold / exhaust / dissy on my na / auto rb30e now all of it is back on and correctly hooked up except for the rear milo tin meaning that the exhaust ends just after the diff. cas is fine - (there is some ignition but mainly resulting in a backfire) o2 sensor - wasn't plugged in but is now, stopped the backfire but still a bit of a huff afm - all plugged in fine, no air getting in anywhere else exhaust - more gasket seal and new gaskets than you can poke a stick at, no problem there now i also replaced the entire dissy with one from a spare engine i wrecked a while back, it was running fine when pulled apart and obviously the cas is still fine. any ideas? the car turns over, but will not idle or rev, it ignites but i wouldn't say that it is "catching" as it only works for a few huffs then stops. its on charge at the moment so i can have another crack later on tonight. cheers for any help - Mitcham

Firstly, the o2 sensor does not play as big a role as many people believe. It is just a fine tuning device and will not stop the car from running. Did you put the dizzy back in while at TDC on the compression stroke? Putting it in while on the exhaust stroke will cause 'popping' out the exhaust when you try and crank it.

monsta54, i didn't set the TDC in any specific way, in fact i don't even know what it is. this sounds like excatly what is happening and with my experience, it seems like the cause. please contact me with some details of what to do.

put the far left line on the harmonic balancer to the timing mark on the lower timing case take the top timing cover off make sure the dot on the cam gear is facing the top of the engine if its not turn the harmonic another revolution and it will be then mark the dizzy cap where number 1 is all the way to where it joins to the dizzy then take your dizzy cap off and set the rotor facing towards where 1 (your mark) is then put the cap back on fire it up if you have to have the dizzy set all the way one way to make it run your one tooth out just keep going till its right Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
