Ive just finished my high comp turbo setup on my vl and im looking at upgrading the cam in search of some more midrange but mostly top end. Can anybody recommend a cam spec for a high comp turbo rb30.
My current setup is:
t3/t4 on 15psi (soon to be 20psi)
550cc rochesters
turbosmart Reg
bosch 044
3 inch turbo back zorst
FMIC
I want to flatten out my torque curve a bit. Im running the na cam and it seems as though i have huge midrange and then it tapers off quite a bit up top.
I would love to hear from people that are running a high comp set ups and what cam specs they are running.

Hey mate.. I was running a Wade 818 in my car for 3 years.
In both a low comp engine, and highcomp engine. In both engines the car produced the same power and ran the same times.. It wasnt overly big to affect stable idle and general cruise, and obviously not too small to hold me back from making decent power.
(338rwhp - 11.18@121mph) pump fuel
(414rwhp - 10.59@125mph) pump/c16 mix
So going by that, there is a starting point for you to work from.
Others will share similar results with different camshafts and specs, but that is what i've achieved with that cam in my combination of mods.
Get a few opinions, narrow down ur selection and go from there... goodluck with it..

A good mate here runs a Wade 1147c cam is his n/a engine, it doesnt rev the highest (5800 or so and it runs out of puff) but it makes massive torque and power early - over 540rwhp with a monstapower T70, manual, modifed standard inlet.

Wade recommended me their 818b1522c grind when i asked more or less what you are. Good midrange and extra top end for street driving. It's a little bit bigger than the 818.
I have bought it but couldnt tell you performance, it's not installed yet
There are alot of other companies out there other than wade too, but i found their prices to be the best

wade 818b1522c is a very good cam, but will still nose over at around 5900rpm, the Wade 1147c will lift that to around 6500rpm depending on your other mods..........with an 1147c & 7.8:1 comp i found that cam to be a little to big for a daily (in my car it would hunt on the cam at 60kph) but you might find that with higher comp it might suit you fine....personally i'd just get a crow tx2...very similar to an 1147c just with wider lobe separation.........

With the higher comp you can go a little larger in the camshaft and not suffer the same non-friendly lumpiness at idle slow speeds etc

Thanks for all the input guys its a great help. Il take all those ideas on board and do some homework. Good to see other people pursuing high comp motors.

is the 1147cc bigger than the 818?
how would you rate the 1147 and 818 against this cam:
212/224 at .050"
*
Intake Lift .325" (.520" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
*
Exhaust Lift .335" (.536" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
*
116 Lobe Separation ?
would it be bigger than this cam or smaller?
Do you have a workshop?
would the 1147c be a stage 1 or stage 2 or stage 3 cam as opposed to 818 cam?
Also what are the prices or 1147 and 818 cam?
cheers

18-02-09, 13:20 GMT+10#10 You could say that the 818 is a stage 2 and the 1147c is a stage 3. Stages mean f all really...
The 1147 is definately more a top end drag only camshaft while the 818 is more a midrange
You should email/call Wade with what you want out of your car and they can recommend something and quote you on prices. My regrind from wade was around the $150 mark

Is it worth up grading the cam to a 818/b or what ever when aiming for 200kw's?

Depends on the turbo you have. Bigger camshaft means the engine can swallow more air, more air swallowed can push the turbo out of its efficiency range.
If you had a hi-flo or something, then yeah. Camtech make some pretty good cam combo's

07-08-12, 22:21 GMT+10#20 Cool so you can feed a t3 to much via cam upgrade. didn't know that. Looking at getting a high flowed t3 but I don't want to go to crazy till I finish my qualification and earn good money. vls can be my priority down fall n I never want that again.
Thanks just dreaming ATM
