Im doing the same conversion on a mates car at the moment. im looking at installing it next week. Are you using the computer that came with the box or are you using the MV auto computer?

as far as im aware the r33 auto is fully electronic, and uses the rb25 ecu along with its own computer to run. why would someone go to the trouble of installing one in a vl when jatcos can be built to hold decent power with minimal fuss

Most jatcos that are built to hold high power (300kw +) are fully manualized from what ive seen. Plus the cost involved is huge. If its possible to use an r33 auto for approx 300kw and keep driveability for a resonable price, why wouldnt you try it.

gonna use the mv autos computer and a manual valve body I got the box for nothing and with a stock rebuild and shiftkit the will hold over 300 kw

i agree sound like a great idea if you can get around the computer issues, if someone is able to do this successfully and get some sort of decent information up on it im sure that many people would start looking at doing this convetion, i would be looking at doing it for sure as im on my 2nd n/a auto...and they really do suck even behind 140-150rwkw as for the speedo drive, i no that the r31 auto uses an electronic speedo sensor, and u are able to remove it and just plug the vlturbo one straight in, maybe this would work with the r33 box? maybe even remove the extention housing and have a look see, might be able to possibley fit a vl speed gear thing that goes on the output shaft and then use/fit the vl speed cable type...if that makes sense. hope that is some sort of help and let me know how you go with it all! take some photos! gotta get all the stuff together for it before I fit it I've got a big hammer that says it will fit Just got off the phone with the guys at mv autos prices are 385 to fit a stage two shift kit to my valve body 265 for the control box which makes it a full manual 440 to modify the converter to 3k stall They said I may have to change the yolk on the tail shaft

Ive read around that the 300zx auto which is the same box i think can hold 400hp with basic valve body mods.

Bump. More info. This is very interesting and is something that I'm possibly looking at doing soon. I want to know wether it is worth it as compared to $3k for a built Jatco.

I was working on wiring the original ecu from the auto into my vl, but then i moved house. I was having trouble adapting the shift pattern from the rb25 auto as the rb25 revs alot harder than the rb30. Im going to build a kit that jaycar sells that may trick the computer. But i didnt get any futher than that.
