Hey all, I am wanting to fit my dual diaphragm booster, 1" master cylinder and turbo front calipers & rotors, but dont yet have a disk brake set up on the rear. I have heard that the drum brakes will lock up easy with a 1" master but find that hard to beleive as drum brakes are sh1t in any circumstance. Does anyone here have any experience with having a 1" master cylinder and drum brakes? Cheers, Locky.

I thought it would be the opposite, having no residual line pressure valve would allow the shoes to retract too far giving a spongy pedal. Pretty sure the valve is in the master cylinder.. But if I remember correctly drums take a lot less pressure to apply so I can see how putting a bigger master cylinder on would make them lock up easier. Also keep in mind that the front of the car dips so theres not much weight over the rear making it easier to lock up the rears, just depends whether the proportioning valve will be effective enough with the extra pressure. Drum brakes are actually more effective than discs when cold, problem is they can't disperse heat well. Hope that made sense, haha, it did in my head...

Cheers Jonno, I understand what You are saying. Anyone else? Just saw a car in the for sale section running this set up so I might give it a go I reckon.

I got rebuilt calipers, new hoses and most of the handbrake setup if you want it? That way you'll never have to find out? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I have hook ups for rotors and calipers but have to wait until they are available (still fitted to the vehicle) but i will still need axels, backing plates and the complete hand brake set up + i cant afford it yet anyway, just want to get it running atm.

Fair enough - they're there if you want them. I've got backing plates too.

have a look at a drum brake you have almost 80% contact area with rear disc's u may have like 20% the drums work sweet , better than disc's but can't get rid of the heat so by increasing the forse on them i would really thing rear wheel lock ups would be common practice note drums don't even need a booster to run effiiantly

You dont need axles, they are the same, just the oil seals are wider to accommodate the disc brake backing plates. Would be a good idea to get somebody to put new bearings on the axles at the same time as the seals. The mastercyl if for a disc brake system wont have residual line pressure valves for the drums. I suggest you run the original master on the new booster until your ready to upgrade to discs. You will also need the disc brake hard lines that run across the diff and the flexible hoses from hard line to caliper and the hose from the floor to the diff.

True, axles are the same but the oil seal is different. And also true re: the steel lines along the diff.
