Gidday all.
After reading that member's on here are having what seem's to be simple proplem's when car is being used on the dyno.
I'am just wanting to know if other shop's are doing what we do down here @ EFI.
Basically wanting to know if we are the only shop doing VECHICLE PRE-DYNO CHECK'S.
We started doing this after about 1month using another workshop's dyno, what was happening was we would do either the fuel system, maybe wire in a ECU or just a straight forward off the street "I would like my car tuned please" that what we were finding was 95% of performance car's would have poor fuel flow, battery might have been removed to the boot and in-correct wiring used with bad earth's, coil's not having enough voltage, fuel pump's were installed by owner to cut cost, a whole heap of issue's, our biggest one was "I BROUGHT THIS PART ONLINE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS GOOD"
So we as a business had to come up with an idea to save customer's cost and workshop time.
What we came up with was a pre inspection for your vechicle before it went on the roller's, we check fuel flow/pressure, all power and earth leads to battery and starter, power to fuel pump and most of all, engine inspection driveline oil's, almost like a mini service.
We do this at a small cost, but it's a small cost to pay we say instead of it being on the dyno and been charged out 5time's that amount..
Have any member's on here had this check done on there vechicle before a tune, do any member's know of any perforamce shop's doing this and most of all would you like this mini service done on your car to save time and most of all your MONEY.
Thanks for your feedback.

i personally think this is an awesome idea, is going to save people money in lost dyno time chasing simple probs. and no, i have not had one done at any of the tunes i have had from two different shops...

It's ezy, adapt our gauge onto the fuel system and start the engine, clamp the return line for a second aswell to test the reg and fuel leak's

fair enough ya would think but people would sort there **** before whacking it ona dyno. If you go clamping the return im sure alot of 20+ year old fuel lines with bosch 044's would love that lol

Man you should see what some cheap fuel reg's do, its amazing what quality does vs cheap.

Personally - I would say yes if offered, as long as the price wasn't over top. Other people may have a different opinion and should be offered at the time. I think alot of people would take it up. But forcing it on people that don't want it - or charging an arm and a leg for it isn't nice.

i think it's an excellent idea. Have been on 4 dyno's and only ever seen them put a fuel pressure line in once and they had it on back to front. Used 2 tanks of juice and almost 400kms on that dyno. a pre check would have saved me i reckon.

19-01-09, 17:47 GMT+10#10 Where I take my car, they always do a pre-dyno inspection, even going so far as to test compression across all cylinders. It's included in the dyno price, which is fair.
I think as long as it's cheap enough it's a great idea. Also covers you against the dodgy DIY'er. You don't want to damage their car because they have cut corners etc.

19-01-09, 17:48 GMT+10#11 Its worth $35 to save your time and money on the dyno, but if everything checks out its $35 ontop of your dyno run so it adds up.
Altho there is nothing worse than jumping on the dyno and not making any power because of a simple issue you could have known about before hand..
I'd consider the $35 test without even going on the dyno after just to find out if my car is opperating well

We do a something like what you have explained, sometime we will even comp test the engine. We find the biggest problem is when other people or the customer has done the work themselves.
Our reasons for an inspection is safety mainly. If the car leaks any fluid it doesn't get tuned.
If the engine is low on comp or has blow by the customer is contacted proir to any dyno time.
We also have a snap on bore scope that comes in very handy on some cars.

22-01-09, 17:36 GMT+10#15 i think for $35 bucks its a cheap life saver. i work at hsv and our labour prices for services and things start at $107 an hour plus service parts. if you can afford to build a car that warrents getting dyno'd than you can afford another 35 bux to save your A**

22-01-09, 17:51 GMT+10#16 for someone like myself who has pretty limited knowledge, i would take advantage of a pre-dyno check if offered... to be honest, i would expect this to be carried out anyway unless it was just a power run...
with my cars in the past, they usually find something wrong with it before it hits the rollers...
