Hi guys, Thought id throw up some pics of my Latest.
Its an early 1987 Royale, Carbine Metallic over MX Grey, Being an early car it misses out on the Sheild badges for the front guards, and has the Berlina Pinstripe. its done 190,000km and is 100% standard. Picked it up in pretty good nick, Only a small coolant leak and minor cosmetic stuff.
Since i have bought it I have replaced; Cambelt + Tensioner, Water Pump, Thermostat, Coolant Outlets, Belts, and replaced the earlier type P/S Pump and lines, and Alternator with the more common later types.
I am in the process of Painting the plastics a bright metallic silver (similar to Asteroid, but a bit less boring) so it looks a bit second-hand at the moment.

It will be taking the place of the Mighty 2 Litre, no need for 3 VL's. Plans are just a general tidy up, 2 Tone paint, New Tyres, Calais Side Skirts, CD Player, and a Calais Front.

They were a NZ only model. Due to high import taxes during the 1980's cars were assembled locally, using local components wherever possible. Holden NZ always assembled the middle of the road model, in the VL's case that was the Berlina. SL and Calais could be ordered, but were imported so they cost a lot more. The Royale was a way to sell some better equipped cars to a different part of the market, without having to pay Import Tax. Royales missed out on Rear disc brakes, Side Skirts and the Calais front, but had A/C, electric windows/mirrors, Cruise Control etc.

01-01-09, 19:52 GMT+10#11 Yes, The NZ plant used the Dulux Dulon Paint system, due to it being a local product.

the 2l version got the 4.11-1 diff so it helped a bit, in all honesty they are only a little slower than a 3l, they rev a lot higher also and are 10-1 compression ratio.
2l has 95 kw and 3l has 114 kw so not a massive difference really

03-01-09, 07:49 GMT+10#17 The Royale is An RB30.
I have a 2L Berlina, Ive done about 40,000km in it without a problem. The difference is in the torque output, they are much slower than a 3L, But they arent too bad as long as your not trying to set any records, or pull a loaded trailer up a steep hill. The performance is on par with a stock Trimatic 3.3 VK. Top speed is about 160 (5500rpm in drive), it doesnt have enough power to pull top gear.

yea i mean all are different, some will kill others and some wont but on average if you had a 2l and a 3l in a race situation the 3l would pull away but not by much,
my under cover brother from another mother had a 2l manual and it kept up exactly the same as my calais auto na. just as an example. i dont like to admit it but it unfortunatly its true hahaha. im not trying to make the 2l sound any better. quite frankly, it should have been only a auzzy option along with the 1.9, sorry 2l owners. yes id put them with the 1.9s

03-01-09, 08:08 GMT+10#19 I wouldnt lump the 2.0 with the 1.9's. thats being unfair on the RB20. Id still have the RB20 over the 3.3.
