Hey all, alrite ive got a few questions regarding the VL instrument cluster. I got a cluster with the tacho from another vl. Im guessing it was bought from a wreckers as the car i got it out of was an N/A Exec. I want to put it in my n/a exec but have read different things on different threads. So:What series cluster is this and what kind of car did it come off? Exec, Calais, Berlina? will it plug straight into wiring on an 86 n/a exec? or am i going to have to fiddle with it to get the oil pressure guage working? i want to change the odometer on the cluster to match the actual mileage of the engine. this means bringing the odometer back about 20k kms. Is there a particular way to do it so i dont break it? Pics: Thanks in advance Edit: Oh also while i got peoples attention, my exec has a sticker either side of the front guard underneath the Electronic injection badges saying Paul Weberling Optioned (Not sure about last name). Does anyone know what this means/what options it included? I checked the option codes but couldnt find a thing :S Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

1. Berlina/Calais or any turbo model. It is a later 87-88 one. 2. It will plug in and everything will work but as you said, oil pressure but thats an easy fix. 3. Im not sure how to wind it back, but why not change the full speedo over from your one? its about 10 screws and your done.

as for winding the k's back thing, why dont you just pull apart the one you're replacing, and start playing with it untill you get them to wind back properly. once you work it out you can do the same thing to the new one which saves you breaking it. if you break the one you're replacing any way it shouldn't be a big deal... you'd be throwing it out any way. just a thought. -vince.

Just saw the VDO sticker, isnt that the date? c251186 = 25/11/1986 making it a series 1? Am i correct?

That instrument cluster is identical to the one in my Berlina, a September '87 model. It also matches what I had in my Calais ('86), and also in my '88 Executive. AFAIK the only different clusters came in the turbo models, which were grey with dots (or something), rather than squares. Regarding the odometer, simply swap them over. If you pull them apart, you'll see that they're very easy to remove and swap around. AFAIK, the only thing you need to do is get a hold of an oil pressure sensor, and scrw it into the side of the block. Then run a wire from it to the cluster, as per the wiring diagrams.

my series one calais non turbo had the cluster with the grey dots... but theres no garuntee that was original. im no expert on the subject by any means, but i always thought that the calais had the dots, and everything else had the squares, the berlinas, calais and all turbos had a tacho, but only berlina/calais had the oil and volts and digital clock. by that description i suppose yours is a berlina turbo dash... but who knows whether im right or not.

i know my dads 87' Calais Turbo has the dots one. am i right about the VDO sticker number, being the date? Someone on calaisturbo (cant remember when i read it) said to use a s1 dash or something otherwise u get dodgy readings from the speedo. I might have to borrow parts off the old cluster as the bolt holes on the sides of the plastic have been snapped by previous owner.. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Then i pulled it off and the spring went straight out the window.. NO shit Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

What about the BT1 KPH Gauges they are in 2kph increments arent they. Did they vary from s1 to s2? Or did they buy in bulk and do from 86 to 88?

I put a berlina cluster in my vl cause i wanted the tacho insted of the clock because 12:30 RPM wasn't really helpful but volt metre and oil pressure gauge won't work. any info on wiring these up Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i think they r all up in 2km increments. All ive heard is that execs have problems with the oil pressure, there shouldnt be a problem with the volt meter

Apologies in advance for the massive thread dig. I was just wondering if anyone on here know why the clusters have an AU or BA code on the sticker of the cluster and if it actually means anything? Thanks again guys
