hey guys ive just bought 2 x 6.5inch sony explode speakers for my excel and a 2nd hand pioneer head unit and a cheap 2 channel amp and now im hooked and im going to spend another 8 hundred or a grand on a good system. Ive heard that explod sppeakers suck but the guy at jb hi fi said these ones are better, and they sound really clear but arent that good on bass, ill probably get another 2 of these for the back unless someone recommends some splits which are alot better! What i want- quality, crisp clear sound, it doesnt have to be the loudest 'doof doof' system i just want quality. Im thinking about maybe 2 x 12inch subs or 1 x 15inch and a monoblock amp to power it and a 4channel amp to power the splits. Which sub combo will give the cleanest, fattest basslines? As a bass guitar player the bass sound is really important and vibrations/distortion are my worst enemy!! As im a complete noob to stereos could some of you pros out there recommend some gear (amps, speakers, head units) that i could pick up for a grand or less? I dont know if i should go a 5channel amp or a 4channel + monoblock? Ive done a search but wasnt much help. Thanks guys.

hey man monoblock for woofers.. if u want to amp ur speakers get a 4 chanell amp... get good alpine or mb quarts for splitz and for a nice crisp bass note id go with a sound stream woofer.. or sumthing like that.. but dont forget u can allways muck around with your settings @ the h/u cheers sav

get a 4 channel amp for the speakers mono block amp. get a powerful 12inch sub eg. an alpine type r or something along those lines. half the time wen u see dikheads with 2 12's or 2 15''s they are underpowered which produce far less base then jus having the one sub. thats jus my opinion PS: sony explode r F U K I NG _ S H I T

first things first. don't get your audio advice from jb hifi. go to a dedicated high end store and talk to the shop owner, create a relationship with them, ask them whats available in your price range (they do have cheap stuff don't be scared it'll be to expensive) by doing this you will get the best for your money and will have a relationship with someone that will be ablke to give you advice in wiring and tuning your system. don't forget wiring will set you back 2-300 add proper sound deadener and other accesories apart from the actual amps and speakers and your 800 - 1g is all gone. talk to an expert and they will get you something in your range. also if you are a noob x-plod splits will be fine in my first system i ran 3 way kenwood 6" front and 3 way kenwood 6x9" that were 10 years old rear... and i thought it was great. by starting small you will appreciate the large.

Thanks for the advice guys. What are some dedicated high end stores? I was having a look in jaycar and they seem to have some good amps, expensive though. The explodes i got are the xs-s160cx 2 ways and they are totally different to the old ones, they actually sound really good. (im a noob to car stereos but not to "what sounds good") They are 240w peak/55w rated I dont really see how wiring is going to cost me 2 or 300, ive already got proper shielded rca cables etc and all the amp wiring has already been run to the boot, properly fused and grounded etc. Im doing the full install myself. Heres a pic of the power wiring, will this be anough to power my whole system? Its about the thickness of battery cables or my pinkie Oh and dont mind the cheap amp its only temporary Also my budget has already blown out to $1500 im going to upgrade the alternator and put in a second battery aswell. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

even tho every1 bags jaycar sayn its cheap S h it they do a mint job.reasonably priced from the amp power u get. that looks like 6 gauge wirring if ure planning on having alot of rms power u would want atleast 4 or 2 guage. u wont need a 2nd battery jus get a good one and dont pump the **** out of ure system wen the car is off Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

jaycar amps have recieved a lot of australian car audio magazine awards for their amplifiers as they are bang for buck. as for their speakers steer clear i won a spl comp against 2 jaycar 15"s and i had a single mtx 12". his system was crap and the splits were crap. as for the sony xplods any split will sound better than most coaxials (non - split) sony is known as a pretty ordinary brand but have certainly been improving their stuff and compete well against the basic kenwood pioner out there. as for stores i love bentliegh stylin i always speak to trav and theres a young guy there aswell. what area are you in (where in the eastern?) maybe post a thread asking for a more local dealer. as for wiring if you are starting with nothing it can cost that much but seems you have it under control. with your budget (and in such a small car) i think any good audio place would recomend a few 10"s (if you can aford them) and a set of 2 way 6" speakers for the rear. rears aren't really that important in the scheme of things they just provide depth and mid bass. most important to good sq (at your level of audio anyway) is a good set of splits in the front stage and to keep everyone happy, a thumping sub.

i would suggest that u move the inline fuse that is hangin of the side of ur amp and relocate it next to ur battery. the fuse is there to stop power running up the side of ur car in the event of an accident also not just to protect ur amp, so even if the fuse blows u will still have power runnin up the car.... be carefull with that. Also pioneer make awsome sounding 12" subs and splits with a reasonable price.

what wgn psi said is true. the fuse should be as close to the battery as possible. on another note pioneer is good but don't be fooled by there 1200w power ratings its the watts rms that are important. also what i said about the 10"s you said you want crisp and punchy and tens are great for that. as you go larger you start to loose that definition. 12"s however are a good midpoint though. i listen to everything from metal with double kiskers to big big bass in hip hop or dance music. if you go for a 15 theres no way you will be able to listen to metal music its all just 1 big bass note. you wont need an extra battery or an alternator, just make sure yours are in giood working order and you have a good brand battery which is new. none of my mates have ever run a second battery or any new alternator (unless they fried theirs) we all just get a new battery (i run century you will be fine with something basic) unless you start blowing fuses / headlights or notice your headlights dimming with the bass you are in the clear

Shlong and that is fine mate. If it was up to me i'd get the chicks by flopping my **** out of the window, but then u got that whole beign illegal thing and the cops chasing you thing, and the news crew filming ur **** thing, and soemthings you get guys and ug'os looking at your **** and then you've got real problems... so the subwoofer is sick mate SICK MATE

lol at the 12 inch getting chicks in the car. my 12 inch used to shake the house from outside on the street. so you shuold be fine, if theres a girl on the footpath the vibrations from the bass will give her a good time? back on the topic, sony are rubish throw them out. as has been said go for some high end stuff at a private, high end store, tell them what you're looking for, and the price you're willing to pay, and they will help you out. personally i'd be saving up a little bit more, getting myself a good headunit first, because in the end it all comes down to that. if the speakers are recieving a crappy signal, even the best speakers in the world will sound crappy. my 2c any way. -vince.

vlcrusn all anyone outsid is ever going to hear is ratle. so either sound deaden your complete car and wind down windows or you have boot rattle. boot rattle doesn't impress girls and its rare to find one that enjoys good doof. on another note i am guessing sound deadening will be well outside of your price range and to do it properly will require a stripped interior and boot which is a few days off of the road for your car. have we answered your questions airbags?

thanks to every1 who replied, theres some good advice there. Ill definately move the fuse to the battery. I went over to jaycar today and they seem to have some ok prices but noone who worked there could tell me anything about the amps so i didnt stay long I then went over to JB hi fi to check out their prices and had a good convo with this dude who seems to know alot about it, he recommended for my price range i get this alpine 5channel amp and a 12inch sub and a good pair of splits for the front. I think the amp was 100w x 4 and 300w x 1 rms or something, it was $549 does that sound alright?

ha ha at king of the street...... and vlcrusn cars might get chicks but a vl with boot rattle or rear garnish rattle or some muzza drivin around with all his windows down playin music at distortion level will only make the chicks laugh. maybe if u had a lambo or ferrari that might increase ur chances of gettin a root.

bush doofs, we have them down here in vic as well same principle. the amp sounds good mate just remember thats a lot of speaker for an excel. my vl is only running about 200wrms. (so be carefull not to turn it up to loud at the risk of blowing your windows out rofl) will you put the xplods in the back if you get some nice fronts?
