"Their cars were towed to the owners home addresses and wheel-clamped by an authorised tow truck officer." http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/news/la...ZhbGw9MQ%3D%3D (http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/news/latest_releases?sq_content_src=%2BdXJsPWh0dHBzJTNBJTJGJTJGd3d3LmViaXoucG9saWNlLm5zdy5nb3YuYXUlMkZtZWRpYSUyRjMxODIuaHRtbCZhbGw9MQ%3D%3D)

would this lower the cost for the taxpayer? if so, thats probably the only positive to come from it... imagine how many knobs are going to go MacGyver on the wheel clamps? or the amount of guys that will only do further mods to their cars whilst they have their car at home... i think impounding delivers a pretty strong message, by not being able to even see their cars and paying a hefty impound fee... a good mate of mine had his XR6T impounded for about 3 months and im pretty sure the message got through this time... along with all the legal fees, impound fees, fines etc. it becomes pretty clear for any rational person that its just not worth it

true that but i think the main reason why they are doing this is because of insurance purposes. that is what i heard anyways.

Out of sight, out of mind is the expression that comes to mind with the impounding, whereas locking up the car in plain view and having to walk past it every day, having every passer-by or visitor asking what happened just adds insult to injury. I think in that respect it's a great idea, even better if they just clamp the front wheels because then you can still get on the brake Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

that makes sense (about the insurance) there are pros and cons for it but i can already see some westy attacking one of these clamps with a grinder lol lol @ skids whilst clamped... the temptation would be too much for most i will admit... i can see what you mean about seeing it and not being able to drive it, weve all been there when our cars have been pulled apart/broken down and it sucks... if this makes its way south, imagine how many house arrested VLTs will become stationary dose machines lol
