Couple questions about running a VLT with a gas vapour setup.
I have just bought a factory VLBT 5 speed wagon that is running dual fuel. I would like to make it dedicated gas, they way that it is setup atm is with the gas being put it just after the airbox, which results on all the piping filling with gas and can be kinda dangerous it sparks and ignites.
I want to hook up a intercooler, but if I do it the way that it is currently setup, it will result in the cooler being full of gas as well.
Mainly what I wanted to know is if there was anyone here running gas vapour setups and how they have them setup.
Cheers
Dale.
gday x-zempt,
sounds like u are running a basic impco set up there and it just dosen't cut the mustard!! the best way to go is to fit gas research. the performance will improve out of sight and u can fit coolers and bov no probs.
I have played with impco gas mixer turbo setups and had nothing but problems, mainly getting to lean and thats not a good thing!!!
What kinda of pricing would I be looking at for a gas research setup.
I don't want to be going for high power hear really, just wanna build a nice clean VL Turbo for a weekend cruiser.
I will most likely be transplanting all the running gear into a sedan (hopefully a Calais) and would really like to put in an under body gas tank, where the standard tank goes obviously. Anyone here done that?
If you want ZERO chance of backfire you need to fit a vapour injection system.
The system does not support group or batch fired injection, and anyone that says it does is kidding themselves, the never run right unless they are sequentially injected. The only way to achieve sequential injection and therefore PERFECT running on LPG injection is to run a aftermarket ECU like a PROFIRE unit. The Profire ECU's are an awesome bit of kit and will run BIG horsepower if you want it to, you can even run 12 injectors if the 6 run out of legs. They have a 1000kw Dodge in Perth running Profire ECU.
With this set up you can tune EVERY aspect of your engine. You can also upgrade your ignition system to coil pack or leave it the way it is, but the profire will be able to tune not only fuel but ignition to perfection and then you can have the full benefits of LPG and run higher boost and more ignition advance and get more power than petrol.
The best possible system would be an aftermarket ECU and Liquid injection.
I fitted a BF turbo yesterday with it abd gained and extra 18RWKW without any tuning to the petrol ECU (the petrol ECU runs tyhe systrem directly) but once again its not suited to the VL's injection
But with each there is no chance of backfiring and NO and a gain in performance over petrol.
Basic gra setup will set u back around 3500 installed and tuned. in most cases u will pick up power with this setup and its cheap as chips to run.
U would most likely be able to obtain the 2k gas rebate which takes a fair chunk ot of the conversion price.
U can recess a gas tank into the position of the old fuel tank with a little fabrication, we mainly do this on a vl wagon gas setup.
hope that puts a little light on the subject

Thanks.
Very helpful. Running a GRA setup sounds like the way to go. As I said, I won't be going for any real high power figures. So don't need anything extreme.
But before any of this happens I gotta find me another shell to put all my drivetrain into. LoL.
GRA setup si proven if your not keen on spending big bucks.
simple setup but hard to find a good tuner
most likly will be a 440cfm t/b, twin B2 converters, twin gas lines and twin outlet tank.
good for around 400rwkw apparently...
