i recently brought a VS 3.8, after putting on some new wheels and a stereo i've got about 1grand to spend on some slight engine mods, i know it wont get me far as im not after turning it into a machine but i just thought i could get your opinions on what way is best to spend this money for the most effective way for some extra kw's?

Waste.... But if you really want to do it CAI and Exhaust

or you could spend it on diff gears, or 5 speed conversion.

5speed or diff gears would make the most noticeable gains, CAI and exhaust would be hard to notice much difference

Diff gears and lower it (you didn't mention it had been lowered yet) A "sports" exhaust won't make much more power and will in fact make your car sound gay

What is with the trend of no springs in the back 4wd height at the front lately? C4C was full of it. Whatever happened to realistic lowering? *grumble grumble* I'm getting old...

Your asking for the impossible. Coilovers will get you that low with a semi-comfortable ride, but will cost you $3,000+ to do it right Your best bet is to get some shorted shocks (Pedders are ok for the money) and King superlows front and rear. It wont be dumped over the on top of the tyre, but it should be close to legal and give an alright ride

If you can find a cheap 5L with loom and box, then that'll be an upgrade. It'd have to be hell cheap though.

Roller Rockers are not too bad for kW/$ ratio, and are fairly simple mod. But then again maybe not. Up to you in the end of the day. Cheers.

if you wanna make some power get a cheap cat back straight through exhaust for bout 250-300, MACE Engineering Roller Rockers bout 450-500(power increase up to 15-20KW at wheels), 69mm Throttle Body(power up by bout 10-15KW at wheels) and get a powerchip. Then take it for dyno run should make more than a stock 5.0 at wheels. my mate has vs 3.8 with big throttle body, exhaust and powerchip and makes over 120kw's at wheels and has done nearly 350,000 k's. then after that get 3.9 diff gears and stage 2 shift and you should be gettin what you want. after that it starts getting exspensive. My B/F has stock VS V6 and is gonna do all above plus more. Hope that helps you out abit. cheers laura

I highly doubt a machined out throttle body would give an increase of 10-15rwkw
