Hi all, I am in the process of changing the auto to a manual in my VL. I am doing it myself and dont have access to a hoist etc. I was wondering how you jack up your car a sufficient ammount to do such things?? Thanks guys, Josh

ah not to be a smart ass but if you don't know how to jack your car up and safely secure it on some stands do you really think that you should be crawling under you car and chaging the box over.... not that its a hard job but if you don't have the knowledge mate pay for it to be done ! IMO

i didnt mean it like that. its just that its quite low atm, and to jack it up enough to change the gearbox I would at least want to be about to crawl around. I ment, what actual jack stands do you guys use.

Use a decent trolly jack and put it up on stands. When I do mine I back my car up on ramps then jack the front up onto the stands. Just make sure its all safe before you jump under the car.

and still not to be a ****, you should use appropriately load rated stands, mate i'd stay out from underneath your car

make sure someone else is around. it also helps to keep the jack in place or put a spare wheel under the wheel, this way if it drops you have a backup mechanism

how copnfident are you at changing a gearbox? if your quick enough, why not ring up a few mechanics and ask em if you can use there hoist on a saturday or something? for a small fee of course, but i'm sure if you look someone will let you have one for a slab

Like people have said if you cannot figure out how to have the car jacked your bound to not know what your doing once your under the car man. No offence. Changing a gearbox is easy but changing from Auto to Manual is a completely different story its not as simple as just chuking it in, alot of things need to be done, maybe you should ask for some help.
