If you happen to put duct tape on your car and leave it for a few weeks, you will notice that when you go to pull it off, it will pull off a top layer off, but leave the sticky stuff on the car, this usualy can be a pain and cause people to go to rediculous lengths to get it off. (IE. using a razor blade, knife , soaking it in hot water and using a plastic scraper etc.)
Jsut putting a new idea out there
What you will need:
1 x Small can of WD40
1 X Bottle of Windex
Some cleaning wipes (like those fancy blue colored ones at repco and supercheap auto)
STEP 1:
Spray the affected area with a light coverage of wd40 and let soak for 30secs.
STEP 2:
While the area is damp from the WD40, do a couple of squirts of windex over the top of WD40 on the affected area
STEP 3:
spray two squirts of wd40 onto the cleaning wipes, and then two squirts of windex onto the same spot of the cleaning wipes (or until its quite wet) and start scrubbing. Do it quite hard and fast and you will notice after only a few seconds it will start to come off.
The wd40 will not stain or scratch your paint, and netiehr will the windex PROVIDING you wash it at least 24 hours after you have done this JUST TO BE SAFE!!..
I TAKE NO RESPONISILITY IF YOU FCUK IT UP

Or you can just use petrol on a rag to remove glue, most usefull if you get a new windscreen fitted and they use masking tape to retain the rubber while the sikaflex dries,if the masking tape gets wet (or exposed to overnight dew) it often leaves the glue behind on removal.

You can use whatever floats your boat, jsut offering up a new idea that works fast and efficiently.
There's lots of reasons why people use duct tape on there car not knowing that it leaves the sticky residue behind, holding up bumpers etc.
If you have any other ideas post it up, im sure this will help someone out..

27-02-11, 01:02 GMT+10#13 just reading through this old thread and thought i might just make a quick mention RE acetone.
acetone can deform some plastics, tbh i dont know exactly what the bumpers on a vl are made for but acetone can be used to strip some paints, as well as melt or deform/break up plastics.
infact acetone is used to break down many common plastic wastes.
sorry i know its bumping an old thread, and no, i didnt stick ducttape on my car..
