coz im an apprentice mechanic and i go to croyden tafe they have a dyno there and we are doing dyognostics at the moment so we got to put our own cars on there and did some power runs while we were messin around on there. we can put anything on there at anytime pretty much just gotta organise it with the teacher aslong as you go there and your a mechanic you can use it
nah mate not tuned or anything just obolted the exhaust on myself and put it on the dyno today pulled 89 on my first run then 92 on the second and its manual, engine 135 ks on the clock

27-08-08, 19:21 GMT+10#10 they come stock like 114kw don't they? How can you be putting out less power than stock?

27-08-08, 19:22 GMT+10#11 114kw at the flywheel....

27-08-08, 19:26 GMT+10#12 yeah 114kw at the flywheel 21 years ago, mine was 92 at the wheels so that is pretty good for 21 years of abuse.

27-08-08, 19:31 GMT+10#13 you generally as a rule loose between a quarter and a third of power through the driveline, so with those mods hes doing pretty good

28-08-08, 07:04 GMT+10#16 transfer kw at the wheel's into hp and thats what you should have at the fly wheel
92kw(123.28hp) at the wheels x 1.34hp = 123.28kw (165hp) at your flywheel
so you have gained 9.28 hp for standard not bad for a 20 year old car.

28-08-08, 13:08 GMT+10#17 yea i had my red vl dyno'ed ages ago (going back 2-3 years) and it started our with 91 rwkw and i was able to get 96.5 rwkw out of it in the end. Just an N/Z with pod filter, extractors, 2.5 inch system. This all going through a manual box.

where did you get that formula from because someone had just made that up....
Through a manual box you can expect to lose around 20kw so that give him about 110kw at the engine which is what you would expect.

28-08-08, 15:34 GMT+10#19 i found the formula in street commodores going back a lil while. its lots of stuff in there like
1.34hp to 1kw
0.7643kw to 1hp
i'll have a good look and get back to you

28-08-08, 16:15 GMT+10#20 yeh those are correct but theres not really any 'standard formula' for how much power you will lose at the wheels.
For 90rwkw going by what your saying you multiply by 1.34 to get the KW at the flywheel which equals 120kw, thats probably is not too far off the real figure.
But what if youve got 500rwkw? multiply by 1.34 to get 670kw at the fly... but theres no way your losing 170kw through the driveline lol..
