VR Starting Probs - Factory Immob?

Got a problem with the VR. Every time I go to start it, the indicators flash (sometimes rapidly, sometimes they stay on constant) and the car refuses to start (ie, no cranking at all). The VR has the standard immoboliser/central locking. I press the button to unlock the car before attempting to start it. As soon as the accessories are enabled, the indicators will start flashing/stay on. If you try to start the car when the indicators are still on/flashing, it will not start. Sometimes the indicators will go off quickly (5 seconds), sometimes they stay on for a lot longer. Once they go off, I can then start the car not a problem. It seems the longer the car is left off, the harder it is to start. If you turn it off and then try to start it right away - usually can start it within 5 seconds (still annoying though - and makes it hard to troubleshoot / replicate the problem). I tested the ignition barrell, when the problem is happening, the ignition barrell is sending a 12V signal to the purple wire (starter trigger wire), however the car will not crank at all. I am thinking its something to do with the factory immoboliser - has anyone had a similar problem? How do you fix it? can you bypass the factory immob/transponder? Not sure if it is related (possibly not), but the stereo turns itself off and then back on again everytime a light is turned on in the car (ie, stereo will be on. Turn the headlights on, stereo goes off - then comes back on..... stereo will be on - open the door - interior light comes on - stereo goes off and then comes back on). I suspect the alternator or the battery isn't keeping enough voltage when a light is turned on (voltage drops to ~10V for about 1/2 second when a light is turned on). Could it be a bad earth?
