Hi i have an 87 Vl 5 speed BT1 turbo and the other day when i was driving along it cut out. I have checked to make sure it has spark and it does also made sure it was getting fuel and it does. It turns over but doesn't want to start any help with the problem would be greatly appreciated
cheers Michael
an AFM wont make the car stop completely. Even if the AFM died it would still be running, just like a box of ****.
First questions that should come to mind are have you changed anything? How long ago were your leads and plugs purchased? You havent put in crap fuel? Lighter note you havent got diesel in your tank? lol
More details on how you checked fuel and spark. Could be low fuel pressure or there is blow out in the spark plugs because of age of them
well i have replace the c.a.s rotor botton new leads new spark plugs just had a sevice the injectors have just been recond new fuel pumps intank and extenal. it did the same thing to me a week ago just pulled out number 1 spark plug turned it over and it wanted to start so i put the spark plug back in and it started it drive good for a few days and on friday it died again. i checked for spark buy pulling number 1 out again earth it the the body and turned the motor over and there was spark caming for the spark plug. the same with the coil pulled the lead off the coil and there was spark from there too. i can hear the fuel pump working and there is presser there as i have a mass fuel presser reg with gauge and when you turn the key and you hear the fuel pump its showing 30 psi and when you go to start it the fuel presser goes up higher. there is not too much on this car i have not change in the time i have owned it. thanks for the help so far guys
wow, sounds like you look after your car.
How much fuel pressure are you getting at idle and underload? 30psi seems low
When it cut out, did it just stop straight away or did it kinda lose power and cough and choke for a bit first?
Take off your top timing belt cover and make sure your timing belt hasnt broken.
You dont have milky oil or oil or bubbles in the radiator do you?
30psi is a little low
Did u change the bearing in the dizzy with the cas??
Cheak the 2 plugs on the dizzy, sounds like when you disconnect the lead its moving some thing else.

at idle it sits on 35psi under load i have know idea. when it cut out it just losed power but cough or choke. tryed to drop it back down the gears to keep it going but had no power. there is no milky crap in the radiator havent checked the timing belt yet but will do that
yes, it could very well be fuel.. i know that when a car runs fuel with too much ethanol, it deteriorates the fuel lines and tank.. i worked on a ba falcon with lines, rails, injectors blocked in ****.. after bad deterioration
have you checked your injectors? maybe try flushing them.. get under the car, disconnect your fuel lines and check if theres gunk in them..
im not sure were the fuel filters are situated in the vl's but disconnect them if their external from the tank and make sure its not blocked.. dosnt take much to block them..
found the problem it was a faulty power transistor witch hangs of the side of distributor so its running again yea now time to sell thanks for your help guy cheers Michael
