Hi Guys,
For some of you VL tech/trivia buffs, i have located and taken pics of the speculative "interior dimmer circuit". This was fitted to my 88 SL Limited Edition. It is definitely a factory fitted box, and was located in the drivers side footwell glued right down the bottom. Basically when the doors are shut, the interior light dims down slowly to nothing over about 40 seconds. Although this is arguably a useless feature, I find the fact that it was installed interesting, and there have been many ppl say that it must be an aftermarket circuit.
Last week my interior light was constantly on, regardless of door switch earths (it would drop .05V if switch was deactivated). This is what set me on the hunt for this device. To my horror, when I did find and open it, 20yr old brown water oozed out of it all over my carpet
I cleaned up the contaminated circuit and now she works again good as new

Thanks for reading
Chris

this is not factory and its not working properly, it should keep lights on at
full level for a few secs then shut off, not dim...
edit:
I think that grass got some free mineral fertiliser from the water in the box,
dont see many VL's that need an internal lawnmower - battery operated I guess
edit:2
That small 3 pin device is likely a JFET ie Not a gradual device but a timed
switch otherwise only one transistor would be enough... (thats the large one too)

Where do the wires lead to? I suspect it is aftermarket too, and no reason it wouldn't dim the light until it goes out, that's how the light works in my captiva, only over about a 10sec period.

you can buy time delay kits from Jaycar that you make yourself too

ROFL @ edit 1 haha excuse the mess in my daily.
It's so cleanly patched into the drivers door pin switch wire with a proper plug and all, figured it must have been factory??? and the dirty holden glue... lol
