I think he means more sounds coming from speakers? Not rattles. Could be wrong though. If I am right, best be is to put new speaker wire in. Also make sure you have no power cables (sub cables etc) running along side speaker/signal wires. That will cause background noise.

i get a bit of both. its a mad ****ed up rattle that i think is coming from the parcel shelf, ill pull it all out put something between it and what not. i do get a weird background noise coming through the speakers, sounds like something interfering from the engine or something cuz if u turn the volume right down it matches the idles, and goes up when u rev it. someone told me i need a "condensor" or some **** but i dnt even know what that is.

Even running speaker cables (from headunit to speakers) next to a power cable can casue distortion in the sound. And old speaker cables can cause it as well.

Looks like you have two issues... Rear shelf rattle and a bit of good old engine noise. Rear shelf rattle: Best thing you can do is sound deaden the rear shelf with something like Dynamat. Its a thin rubber sheet, backed with and aluminium layer and its adhesive so its easy to stick straight to the metal shelf. Apart from this using something like carpet or a thin layer of foam will also help stop a lot of rattles from the factory shelf "slapping" against the metal. Engine noise: Caused by a million different things. Most commonly: Bad earth on the amp - make sure the earth cable is as short as possible and is earthed to bare metal not a painted surface. Also make sure the thickness of earth cable matches the main power cable going into the amp. RCA's - as stated if these are run down the car alongside the main power cable you will almost certainly get engine noise. Best bet to avoid all power cables in the car is to run them down the middle of the car. Also the quality of cables makes huge difference. Deck - a lot of people forget this part when checking for engine noise but its common for the deck itself to be creating the noise and sending it to the amp. If you have a Pioneer deck your pretty much guaranteed engine noise. They have a bad habit of blowing earth tracks within the deck causing the problem with engine noise. Hope that helps! Dave

Some people use cat5e instead of RCA cables. Another option for reducing engine noise interference (that makes your car sound like it's supercharged) are these: http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA3060

rca cables... or use balanced lines...

Dynamat can be bought from most car audio stores. Noise surpressors are a band aid fix and arent the greatest thing to use as they limit the entire signal rather than just the noise itself. Your always better off finding the source of the problem and fixing that.
