hey guys,
i recently stumbled across a pretty good condition VL commoodre for the bargin price of $500 of a mate who is obsessed with vl's he has 6 and he is in 50's...Anyhow a few grips with the car.... firstly , i dont think im getting fuel ecconemy out of it, as i dont have fuel guage or a odemeter i cant tell you, but working out with GPS distance chews about 17 L per 100 Km .... which is about a Litre or two less then a modified Rx7..... does this make sense to you guys>?
Next question is the cruise control intermittently works, would replacing switch fix this do we recon ?

hmmm, well im not sure exactly how many k's is "average" or "good" but if you get over 300 its decent, and judging by what you said, you should be getting a little over 300kms...
im getting ~200 out of a tank LOL
so your doing better then me

thats pretty disapointing : ( only a little over 300 Kms out of a commodore... My Series 4 RX7 thats modded chews more then that but not by much ... i always presumed they were really fuel efficent... oh well stops me taking my toy everywhere

you may need to replace your o2 sensor, you should be able to get near 450km around town and 600km highway.

You should be getting 500 at least. My vl turbo gets 550-600 with a bit of thrashing.

as for the c/c i also have this problem i have replaced -
c/c vacum
c/c throttle cable
c/c button
as i've done all this i beleieve its a wiring issue however haven't really gone to the effort to do anything further about it.
why do you not have a tripometer / odometer? has yours broken? if so its an easy (ish) fix. remove the cluster and open it up. on the driver side of the odometer unit there should be a small white cog (plastic) this is the part which tends to break and which will need to be replaced.
as for fuel efficiency there are a few things to look at.
start wit tuning the afm (check the tech articles section)
also do the 02 sensor
then think sparks and leads
any other general maintenance (possibly even a ne distributor would help)
have fun with the vl you will soon learn that the problems never cease leading to countless hours of fun shenanigans.

Yeah forsure man =] I have a few mates with cars of all differnt nature that would mind cruising...... let me know when ever ur up for it and ill be there
yeah reason i dont have the odemeter is because it got stuck on 153000 and it and the trip metre both dont work.... ill give it a go taking it out and having a muck about, as i gotta do the fuel guage thing as well i read in tech section
hahaha from what you said SI roller it seems like owning a VL is going to be another time consuming experiance like a with my rx7 lol =] I wanted a VL for my first car but my dad convinced me into a RX7, its great to finally own one :P (except for the fact i get pulled over more in it then the rx7 lol )
ill try all of the above and see how i go with fuel ecconemy !!!
cheers guys
