History and Build:
I've owned the car for over 2 Years now, havn't really had any problems with it apart from the usual problems (CAS, Sensors). I had always planned to rebuild the engine and make it a clean example of a Calais Turbo so i decided in order to save the funds to build my project i would have to not drive it, or drive it less.
It was left sitting for weeks on end, occasionally started and and taken around the block, for around 6 months until I was able to start the rebuild. My first plans were jsut for a complete rebuild with a Highflowed T3 Turbo, Forged Pistons and a bit of boost, but we all know this leads to that and it never happens, as you will see.
After tearing down the motor, we realised that it wasnt in as bad condition as first thought, apart from the cooling system which was rusted beyond beleif. The first step was to get everything clean, so in the tank it went. A suitable cam was then chosen (Wade 242A) to suit the project/power that I was aiming for. Forgies were a must and so was a new tensioner, belts, valve springs and water pump. A Triple layer steel Comectic headgasket was also used. The crank was measured and grinded and suitable bearings chosen. The head was then sent off to get cleaned, cracktested and repaired where/if necessary and sandblasted which came back looking like new.
Once the engine started taking shape, i was in the hunt for a transmission and a turbo. I was able tp pick up a cheap transmission which would suit the power that this car would end up making. After not being able to find a highflowed turbo in my price range and not wanting to highflow my original turbo, I started searching for one, which turned out to be a GT35/40. A problem occured as i wanted to mount this up to standard manifold in which it was hitting the block and the engine mount was in the way. All of which was sorted, custom lines made and then everything was ready to sit in the car.
Once sitting in the car, a certain part of the cooler piping had to be custom made, and the rear of the turbo attached to the exhaust. A K n N Pod setup was fitted on the car, then dyno tuned and the car was ready to go.
