Hi guys Ray Hall up in cairns has released his own ecu. Havent seen it on here yet so thaught id chuck up the link. http://www.vi-pec.com/index.html V44-http://www.vi-pec.com/page_files/V44.html V88-http://www.vi-pec.com/page_files/V88.html Looking at the V44 for my vl. seems like the better option compared to the wolf/microtech. And for around $1600 is better priced then the autronic smc + local support. What's your thaughts on it for a vlt? Cheers Ian

The Vipec V44 or V88 model ECU could be used on the RB30. The V44 would be run as multi group injection and wasted spark ignition. The V88 would be full sequential for fuel and ignition. The V44 is $1600 and the V88 is $2250. Both ECU come with harness, air and water temperature sensors, USB cable and manual. The GM LS1 coils would be suitable for up to 28 psi boost. They sell for $94 each and come with connector, pins and sparkplug lead terminal and boot.

straight away i can see that you will need high impedance injectors with the v44 or need to add ballast resistors. possibly not a bid drama if your upgrading injectors anyway. v88 would drive them straight up with peak hold drivers in that model.

Thanks for the replies guys. Seems like the V88 might be the way to go.

v88 need external map sensor v44 is internal, just incase you missed that part also, little extra cost. ballast resistors shouldn't be expensive anyway, if thats the only thing turning you to the v88. at the end of the day it looks just like a copied/reverse engineered autronic, so it should be much the same bar a few improvements.

Yeah noticed that with the v88. Im just wanting to go with the one that's going to be the least pain (and cheapest) to set up and get going as both seem to be good ecu's to me. So with the v44 I would have to go a multicoil setup? Id be changing injectors soon after anyway so their not a real big drama. So basically which one would be the easiest to get going and cheapest is what i would like an idea on. Thanks Ian

Ive got a mate that has bought one of these for a vl turbo, not sure what model it is, It is supposed to be better than the Autronic, that was from a tuner that used to love the Autronics.

yeah, your right about the ignition outputs, v44 will only be able to run distributor or waste spark, whilst v88 could run individual. that will come back to exactly what setup you wish to run.

I would probably just run the std distributor setup if i could. at the moment anyway. Also how would i go with the v44 only having 4 injector outputs?... or atleast i think it does.. lol sorry for all the questions fellas

yeah your right it only has 4 injector drivers as well according to the information, even the old autronic smc had enough injector drivers for a 6cyl in sequential mode, i assumed this was the same. if you want full sequential injection then you should go the v88, plus you can drive any type of injector impedance and individual coils as previously mentioned, otherwise the v44 would be configured to fire the injectors as pairs. i.e two at a time. i mean the v44 will do it all on a vl no real dramas, much the same capability as say a motec m4, but with the v88 you could run sequential injection for better idle with big/huge injectors, run any impedance injectors low or high, run individual coils if needed. the other bonus would be with the v88 you could potentially remove it from the vl and use it on another car in the future as it has the potential to run just about anything looking at the specs, variable cams, drive by wire etc. so in that respect the v88 could represent better value as its more future proof so to speak. 2.2k is along way from a s/hand $600 microtech/wolf3d but, of course its a much more polished product and doesn't sound like you want junk. can i ask what sort of engine setup this is going to run, a mild or wild setup?

It's just going into a n/a turbo set up. Just a highflow and vlt gear with cooler 10psi. So very mild at the moment. I like the idea of a good quality ecu to get much more out of it. and well up here their doesnt seem to be many that will tune microtech or wolf . And the two to pick from seem to be the autronic smc($2187) with loom temp sensor trigger disk etc. or sm4 for $2475 with loom etc or $2156 with a connector set. Or the Vi-pec. Both of which have decent tuners up this way. Was also looking at nistune for a budget go at it but again no tuner..

Well after looking into it abit more and weighing up costs etc. And Ive got a leaking injector now so decided to go with nistune and a set of gtr injectors and see how it goes. Thanks for all the replies fellas.
