My mates just purchased a 04 Twinturbo B4 Liberty. He wants a little more go from it. Just wondering if anyones had any experience with them. I told him the usual Exhaust and possible boost increase (on a dyno) but not sure if the standard ecu would be tunable? How good is the standard top mount intercooler? Hes chancing around 200kw's at all 4.

tell him to take off the 2 potato sized turbos and put a real turbo on, then get a front mount, and boost increase

They are small, the smallest one is spooling at 20,000rpm at idle Quote: Originally Posted by KLR-747 http://www.ecutek.com.au/pdf/B4-story-by-autospeed.pdf Thanks mate .pdf file was a good read. So all they do is load a pre made map onto you ECU for $1500 jesus sounds expensive. Quote: At this stage, nobody in Australia has gone beyond this level of modification. I thought there would be heaps of modifide B4's n heaps of info on the net but havnt had any luck, maybe thats why. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

kool he was hoping not to swap turbos/manifolds. I was reading wiring the gate open on the secondary turbo will help with midrange power? with this simple mod it should boost should increase by 3.5psi or 180rwkw. I can understand how the standard Intercooler setup is a rather poor disign just by looking at it.

B4s were a highly anticipated car but when they arrived here it was found that they were a disappointment performance wise, lengthy turbo lag etc I'm figuring he got it fairly cheap as they seem hard to sell contact someone like MRT for some advice on mods but don't use them to do the work as they are expensive

That article is one that steered me away from getting a b4 as i was looking at them when i was looking at updating. Ecutek is a decent remap that alot of people with wrx do go for. It levels out most of the factory flaws i suppose you could say. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

2004 twin turbo? Liberty went to single turbo in 2003 To the people recommending front mounts... have you seen how much pipe is needed to put a front mount on one of them??? If your talking about one of the old pre-2003 twin turbo Liberty's you can forget about making them quick without making them fall apart. If you talking about 2003+ single turbo Liberty, then do the downpipe, exhaust, a new top mount (something like this http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop...er-p-3429.html (http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/avo-subaru-legacy-top-mount-intercooler-p-3429.html))

I could imagine how much piping u would need. I guess that would affect lag. Ive been in the car and for a stock luxury car It goes pritty good, but you do notice a little lag between the first turbo running outa puff n the bigger geting up to speed at around 4200rpm but bairly noticable. Apparently there is a gate that opens at a set rpm to spool the larger turbo, if its wired open it spools the turbo alot faster giving it better midrange.

they arent designed to be quick... Thats what a wrx is for. With a turbo that spins at 20 000rpm at idle, how much could you really hope for?

Its that last one. Awsome car! Quote: Originally Posted by airbagsVL they arent designed to be quick... Thats what a wrx is for. Downpipe and exhaust are the only mods worth doing then. They aren't the most reliable cars when modified

Engine, turbos, gearbox 2001+ STI's are tough, and 2003+ Libertys are pretty tough (other than the clutch)... I wouldn't go near anything older if you plan to modify it
